The Columbia Society of International Law (CSIL) is Columbia Law School’s premier student group dedicated to international law. We are entirely student-run, and we have been the largest and most active student organization on campus for decades. First, we provide opportunities for Columbia Law students to participate in and learn about the theory and practice of public and private international la
w, particularly by networking with and learning from some of the finest scholars and practitioners in the field. Second, we passionately represent and advocate on behalf of students interested in studying or pursuing careers in international law. Third, we host several professional events both on and off campus. This third prong is highlighted by our Friedmann Conference, which is run entirely by CSIL members and serves as one of the most prestigious conferences in the field. Membership in CSIL enriches the law school experience. Through our year-long programming, we inform our members about career opportunities and current issues in international law, create opportunities for members to meet leading scholars, and connect members with practitioners from the finest international law firms and organizations, particularly through intimate, small-group lunches, where members can learn how they can pursue successful careers in the field. In addition, by becoming a member of CSIL law students connect with the generations of Columbia Law and CSIL alumni who are active in the international legal arena and form a network that spans the globe.
