Statement by Chancellor Félix V. Matos Rodríguez on the ruling to end TPS for Haitians and Syrians:
The U.S. Supreme Court’s decision clearing the way for the federal government to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for people from Haiti and Syria will have immediate and far-reaching consequences for members of the CUNY community. For CUNY students from these countries, losing TPS will mean losing legal status and in some cases, losing their eligibility for in-state tuition and New York State financial aid, putting their ability to continue their education at risk. And because TPS provides work authorization, its termination jeopardizes the jobs and income that CUNY employees with TPS rely on to support themselves and their families.
