NOTICE TO NON CUSTODIAL PARENTS:

The NYC Department of Social Services, Human Resources Administration, and Office of Child Support Services sponsor the “Pay It Off” matching program allows noncustodial parents to pay off child support debt twice as fast between now and 6/30. Make a payment of at least $500 towards arrears during the month of June, and the City will match it dollar for dollar. Those who pay off the principal during June will have their interest automatically eliminated; and those who sign up for the Arrears Credit Program during the Pay It Off month of June will earn a one-time sign-up bonus of $2,500 applied to their arrears, and also be eligible for additional reductions up to $15,000 over three years.

Being behind on your child support can have sever consequences. It can impact your ability to get certain jobs; it can impact your credit; it can impact your ability to travel (i.e not obtaining a passport); and it can cause you to be incarcerated if the court finds you are willingly refusing to pay. Don’t be that person. However for most people, they simple cannot afford to support themselves and pay child support, and many people end up having to have to decide between whether to pay rent or pay child support. The truth is, it is very possible to be both a “victim” and “perpetrator” of abuse… it’s called being in a relationship. I wish more people would find the courage to get help and heal from their traumas instead of getting into trauma bonding relationships thinking it’s in anyway cute. From the little (or lot due to the inescapable visibility all over my timeline) I’ve seen of the trial, the verdict seems fair. The jury deliberated and the verdict is what it is. This case is not a representation of “true domestic violence victims” at least not from the women’s point of view, and Amber Heard needs to just stop trying to be the “national face of domestic violence victims” cause baby girl, you’re not. Go get help. The verdict didn’t set back the movement championing the end of violence against women, women like Amber Heard sets back the movement in making it more difficult for people to believe victims.
