Day 28- Ages
For years, I’ve heard people say, “Age is just a number.” In some situations, that’s true. However, a birthdate alone does not determine a person’s character, wisdom, or ability to love. It’s not simply about the number of years someone has lived. It’s about the maturity, life experience, emotional stability, and spiritual growth that often come with those years.

I’ve met young people with incredible wisdom, responsibility, and self-control. On the other hand, growing older doesn’t automatically make someone wiser. Sometimes it simply means they’ve had more years to reinforce bad habits. Some become so set in their ways that they resist change, reject correction, and refuse to consider another point of view. They may say, “This is just the way I am,” as if that excuses selfishness or stubbornness.

Time has a way of teaching lessons that cannot be learned from books alone. Life brings victories, failures, heartbreak, disappointment, forgiveness, patience, and perseverance. Those experiences, when surrendered to God, shape our character.

Marriage requires flexibility. It requires humility. It requires two people who are willing to learn, adapt, compromise, and continue growing together. If one person believes they already know everything or refuses to change, the relationship will eventually suffer. None of us has arrived. We should all be growing into the image of Christ.

Day 27- My personal experience
When I created my husband wish list, I was specific about how I wanted to be loved: cherished, prioritized, and loved with his whole heart. I desired to be the center of his world, seeking a man who was God-fearing, honest, faithful, and full of integrity. I never mentioned an age, never expecting to marry someone ten years older, but God knew better.

After losing both parents at sixteen, I needed more than a husband—I needed maturity, stability, wisdom, and a heart that offered love, protection, and security I lacked. God looked beyond my list, knowing my true needs. He gave me a man whose life experience balanced mine, whose strength complemented my weaknesses, and whose steady presence became one of His greatest gifts.

Sometimes, we focus on details we think matter, ignoring what God knows to be most important. His plans are higher than ours. He doesn’t just answer prayers—He answers the needs of our hearts, often in ways we never expect.

🏠 Did You Know?

Many buyers think they need 20% down to purchase a home...

The truth?

Many loan programs allow qualified buyers to purchase with much less.

The first step isn't shopping for homes...
It's creating a plan.

I'd love to help connect you with trusted lenders and walk you through the entire process from beginning to closing day.

Buying a home should feel exciting—not overwhelming.

Day 26-Don’t settle cont.

Then there are other desires that may not be biblical commands but are still deeply personal. Wanting to experience marriage and parenthood together for the first time may be one of those desires. It isn’t sinful to pray for that. It isn’t selfish to hope for that. God invites us to bring the desires of our hearts before Him. However, we also have to surrender those desires to Him.

Sometimes God gives us exactly what we’ve been praying for. Other times, He has a greater plan that we couldn’t have imagined on our own. What if the person God has chosen for you is a widower? Would you dismiss a godly man because death—not divorce—ended his first marriage? What if he’s a single father who has faithfully raised his children, demonstrating patience, sacrifice, responsibility, and unconditional love? Those very qualities may reveal the kind of husband he would be.

What if his past isn’t a disqualification but part of the testimony God used to shape him into the man you’ve been praying for? This is why we must allow God to write the story.

Don’t settle because you’re tired of waiting. Don’t compromise your convictions because the clock seems to be ticking. But don’t become so attached to your own blueprint that you miss God’s masterpiece standing right in front of you.

Pray boldly. Trust completely.
Hold your standards with open hands, allowing God to refine them as He refines you.
His plans are always higher than ours. His timing is always perfect. And if He asks you to wait a little longer, it’s because He is still working—either on you, on your future spouse, or on the circumstances that will bring you together at exactly the right time.

So my advice remains the same. “Baby girl, don’t settle.”
Wait for God’s best. And when His peace confirms that you’ve found the one He has prepared for you, move forward in faith, knowing that His plan has always been worth the wait. Don’t confuse “don’t settle” with “don’t surrender.” Never settle for less than God’s best, but always surrender your plans to God’s will. Sometimes they are exactly the same. Sometimes His best looks different than what we imagined—but it is always better than anything we could have planned ourselves.

Day 25- Dont settle.

Another desire of my daughters heart is to marry someone who has never been married and has no children. In her mind, they would experience all of life’s firsts together. They would learn marriage together, build a family together, and share every milestone as each other’s one and only.

After waiting all these years for “the one,” I understand why that desire is so important to her.

The challenge, especially as you get older, is that the dating pool changes. Many wonderful people have already been married, have children, or both. As the years go by, it can begin to feel as though your options are shrinking. Society starts whispering, “Maybe you’re being too picky.” Friends may say, “You need to be more realistic.” Others may even suggest, “At your age, you can’t afford to have standards.”
I disagree. There is a difference between being unrealistic and having convictions.

Being unrealistic means expecting perfection from an imperfect person. Looking for someone who has never made a mistake, never failed, never struggled, or checks every single box on a list isn’t realistic because none of us are perfect.

But convictions are different.
Convictions are those deeply rooted desires and boundaries you’ve prayerfully placed before the Lord. They are the things that matter to you because they align with your values, your calling, and the life you hope to build.

The key is learning the difference between a preference and a non-negotiable.

Hair color? Preference.
Height? Preference.
Income? Preference.
Favorite sports team? Definitely a preference.
But loving Jesus? That’s a non-negotiable.
Honesty? Non-negotiable.
Faithfulness? Non-negotiable.
Kindness? Non-negotiable.
Being equally yoked spiritually? Absolutely non-negotiable. Tbc

Day 24- Know Your Non-Negotiables

My youngest daughter, Kathleen, who is now in her early thirties, has been on the dating scene for a while. One of the first questions she asks is, “How do you feel about having children?” If they say they don’t want kids, there’s the door.

Does that sound harsh? Maybe. But it’s actually one of the kindest things she can do—for both of them.

Why invest months or years getting to know someone, becoming emotionally attached, only to discover you want completely different futures? It’s better to find out on the first date than after you’ve fallen in love.

She likes to have a little fun with the conversation. She’ll say she wants ten children just to watch their reaction. Then she’ll “negotiate” down to six. The truth is, she plans to have two or three biological children and adopt the rest.

That one question opens the door to much bigger conversations. Do you love children? Would you be open to adoption? Do you share the same vision for family? Are you willing to build the life needed to support that vision—emotionally, spiritually, and financially? These aren’t small questions. They’re life questions.

Know your non-negotiables before you start dating seriously. If having children is important to you, say so. If adoption is part of your calling, don’t keep it to yourself. If your visions for the future don’t align, neither person is wrong—you simply aren’t the right match.

Compatibility is about far more than chemistry. It’s about sharing the same direction in life.

Being honest about your non-negotiables isn’t rude; it’s respectful. It saves both people time, heartache, and unnecessary emotional attachment.

Sometimes the kindest answer you’ll ever give—or receive—is, “We’re not looking for the same future. But there's someone out there who is looking for you.”
