Yesterday, I got to use one of my mom’s favorite sayings with a client:

“If you’re going to worry, don’t pray. If you’re going to pray, don’t worry.”

He was incredibly worried about the outcome of today’s preliminary hearing. We put on the best cross we could at the Aniah’s law hearing and planted some seeds for today. I reminded him to trust the process and trust God (don’t worry, he opened that door- not me!).

Today, the case was DISMISSED.

As lawyers, we prepare, we advocate, and we fight for our clients. But sometimes, God’s grace fills in the spaces where our efforts end. Sometimes He moves hearts, opens eyes, and causes people to take a second look.

Today was one of those days.

I am grateful for the opportunity to serve my clients, but even more grateful for the reminder that I don’t carry the weight of every outcome alone.

Alabama plans to expand prison ID program

Alabama officials said they planned to expand a prison identification program after a pilot at Elmore Correctional Facility issued 111 driver’s licenses and state ID cards to incarcerated people before their release. The effort, set to reach five additional facilities, was aimed at easing reentry barriers tied to jobs, housing and services while advancing the state’s broader recidivism goals.
