🌟Tonight Gibson County will shine bright!🎄

Starting at 4 pm in Milan, food vendors will be set up at the Milan Farmers Market and then at 5:45 they will light the tree next to City Hall, with the Christmas parade set to begin at 6:30. It's sure to be a fun evening for the whole family!

If you're closer to Humboldt, head on down to Main Street as they light up their Christmas Tree. There will be lots of fun family activities beginning at 6:00 pm, including a live nativity!

I hate that we can't be two places at once but I love that we don't have to go far to have a little Christmas fun!🎄🎅

We've had Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday and to finish the shopping "holidays" off, today is Giving Tuesday! It's a day to give back to local charities to help them meet their end-of-the-year giving goals so that they can help those in need in our communities.

If you're looking to benefit a charity, I'm partial to The Rack Pack. I also recently shared with you they are building an Isaiah 117 House Gibson-Dyer-Crockett TN in Trenton that will directly help kids in the three surrounding counties. If you have a favorite local charity, tag them in the comments. Remember, even just $5 has an effect on local charities!

We are so excited to be a part of the downtown Trenton community! We are all settled into the new office and are loving the location.

There are so many people who transformed the inside of this beautiful building for us. We are grateful for the hours of hard work they put in because we love how it turned out! Feel free to pop in to say hi and take a look around.

Another day another Chamber event!
This morning I stopped by the Humboldt Chamber of Commerce Morning Mingle at Gene Langley Ford, Inc. In Humboldt. I ran into Lindsay Ferrell with Premier Rentals. Our boys used to be in boy scouts together so it was great to see her again!

I've got a busy weekend ahead. What do y'all have going on?!? Whatever it is, I hope you enjoy your weekend!

Yesterday was a busy day for me, out and about in Gibson County! I started my day at Chamber Chat at the Chamber office. It was sponsored by Maigan Shanklin, an investigator with the Gibson County Sheriff's Department. I also got to catch up with local realtor, Alicia Owens!

Later in the day, Bonni and I were honored to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the Isaiah 117 House Gibson-Dyer-Crockett TN located in Trenton, serving all 3 counties. It's a great organization, providing temporary housing to foster kids. Days like today fill my cup & make me grateful for the community we have in Gibson County.

Last weekend we went to Mississippi State's Homecoming to visit my oldest son, Alex. We had a great time as a family at the MSU Homecoming activities despite the outcome of the game! It's always a fun time in "Starkvegas" 😁

The Rack Pack is definitely "the sorority nobody wants to join" but once you join you are family!

We would like to congratulate Ben McLemore on the purchase of his new home recently!👏🏠 Ben was the first closing we had in our new Trenton office! What made this closing extra special is that Ben used to play little league baseball with my son, Alex, not that many years ago (or so it seems!) We are grateful he chose us to help him in his homebuying journey & are proud of all he's accomplished so far!

In a 2019 survey done by Caring.com, they found half of people don't have a will because "they haven't gotten around to it yet." The reasons the other half have yet to create a will is due to myths they believe. If you fall under any of these reasons, contact me because I can help you create your will. October is National Retirement Security Month. Every little bit you can put towards your retirement is a good thing for your future. My advice is to find a financial planner to get your retirement savings started sooner rather than later. Did you know that a Will or Trust will not direct who gets your retirement at your death? The beneficiary designation controls who will inherit your retirement. I can help you make sure your beneficiary designation goes hand in hand with your last wishes in your Will or Trust.

Today is Conflict Resolution Day. Conflict happens but most situations can be resolved quickly by listening, sharing your feelings while respecting the feelings of the other person, staying focused on only the issue in discussion, and keeping an open mind. In my professional experience, conflict occurs when there is no will or trust and the family doesn't know the wishes of the deceased or if there is a difference in understanding as to what the deceased wanted. Although handwritten (holographic) wills are considered valid in the State of Tennessee if all the requirements are met, attorneys caution against these kinds of wills because of the problems that can arise. The wording can be ambiguous, the author’s true intent may not be understood, or questions of authenticity or competency may arise. If a will is not thorough and clear in the eyes of the law, friends, family, and other benefactors of a will could end up spending unnecessary money to settle who gets what from an estate. This could result in the deceased’s wishes not being met and could even result in something the deceased did not want at all.

Bring your handwritten will to me and I will ensure it is legal and binding so that your wishes are carried out after you're gone.

I know you're used to "Legal Fact Friday" but being that today is Friday the 13th AND it is Halloween season, I thought I'd share some fun facts about today!

1. For a month to have a Friday the 13th, it must begin on a Sunday
2. Famed suspense screenwriter & director, Alfred Hitchcock was born on Friday the 13th (8/13/1899) & his 100th birthday would have occurred on Friday the 13th
3. In Italy, Friday the 17th is unlucky and Tuesday the 13th in Greece & Spain.
4. The fear of Friday the 13th is called friggatriskaidekaphobia or paraskevidekatriaphobia. I'm glad I only had to type those words & not pronounce them!
5. Nobody really knows the exact origin of why Friday the 13th became known for being unlucky

Hopefully, a little luck goes your way today... just be sure to watch out for black cats, don't walk under any ladders or break any mirrors! 🐈‍⬛🪜⚰️

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This is a cause near and dear to me, as I'm a breast cancer survivor myself. I have helped to raise awareness and supported numerous causes over the past 18 years but there is one that I am most proud of and that is The Rack Pack. It was a chance meeting that led to 4 of us survivors forming a breast cancer support group, right here in West TN.

➡️Here's another Tuesday Tip: Websites like LegalZoom & Rocket Lawyer cannot review your answers for legal sufficiency, draw legal conclusions, provide legal advice, or apply the law to the facts of your particular situation. While you can get legal documents drawn up quickly and cheaply, they may not be exactly what YOU need and will end up costing you much more in the long run. Consult an attorney and get it done correctly the first time!
