If you pay someone to prepare your taxes, they must have a PTIN. They must also add that PTIN to your tax return and sign it. The IRS is cracking down on people claiming other people's children/dependents on their tax return. Not only will the taxpayer be audited/fined so will the tax professional who does the return without doing due diligence. Most tax professionals (the legit ones) will be asking you additional questions to make sure you're eligible for the credits. Do not get upset with the tax professional when they ask these questions. It's the IRS law 🤣
