I hear this ALL the time in negotiations — from opposing counsel, adjusters, and sometimes even my own clients.

But the midpoint isn’t automatically the right number just because it’s in the middle.

If you want me to move, give me a reason to move.

Make your concessions intentional. Make the other side earn them.

MARYLAND TRAFFIC TICKET PSA — PART 2 🚗

Moved recently? Updating your address with the Post Office is NOT enough.

The Post Office does not forward MVA mail. You must separately update your address with the Maryland MVA.

And if you’ve paid a traffic ticket or have points on your record, this is especially important.

The MVA may send notices requiring you to take action, and there are strict deadlines for requesting a hearing. Missing the notice does not make the problem go away—and waiting too long can mean losing your opportunity to challenge the MVA action.

Keep your address current. Check your mail. Monitor your myMVA account.

When your driver’s license is involved, staying on top of MVA notices is vital.

I’m getting more and more calls from potential clients who all tell me some version of the same story:

“I already paid the ticket. I didn’t think it was a big deal.”

Then they find out what paying it actually meant.

In Maryland, paying a payable traffic ticket is a guilty plea. That conviction may result in points, increased insurance premiums, a mandatory Driver Improvement Program, license suspension—or consequences for someone’s job or professional license.

By the time they call me, the damage may already be done, and fixing it can be much harder than addressing the ticket correctly from the beginning.

Please do not assume that paying the fine is the easiest or least expensive option. The amount printed on the ticket may be the smallest consequence you face.

Requesting a trial preserves your options. Depending on the charge, the facts and your driving record, an attorney may be able to seek a dismissal, reduction, amendment or probation before judgment.
