Visit our website for more information. The Center for Medicare Advocacy, Inc. is a national non‑profit, non-partisan organization that provides education, advocacy, and legal assistance to help older people and people with disabilities obtain Medicare and quality health care. We focus on the needs of Medicare beneficiaries, all people with long-term, debilitating and chronic conditions, and those in need of long‑term care. The organization is involved in writing, education, litigation and advocacy of importance to Medicare beneficiaries nationwide. The Center is headquartered in Connecticut and Washington, DC, with offices throughout the country. The Center is staffed by attorneys, nurses, legal assistants, and information management specialists. Each year, the Center represents thousands of individuals in appeals of Medicare denials. The work of the Center includes responding to approximately 7000 telephone and email inquiries each year. We also write extensively about Medicare and related topics, produce a wide array of electronic and hard copy educational materials, advocate in administrative, judicial, and legislative forums, and pursue Medicare coverage for individuals and for dually eligible beneficiaries (individuals who are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid). In addition, the organization provides training and support nationwide as well as for Connecticut's state health insurance and assistance program (SHIP program), known in Connecticut as CHOICES. Our attorneys are the authors of the treatise, Medicare Handbook (Wolters Kluwer, 2016, Updated annually)

The Center's staff act as consultants and trainers for groups that are interested in learning about Medicare, nursing home and health care rights, Medicare coverage and appeals, or in developing Medicare advocacy projects. For assistance with Medicare or health care access problems, visit our website at www.MedicareAdvocacy.org or call (860) 456-7790. The Center for Medicare Advocacy's Executive Director, Attorney Judith Stein, is available at the Center's office in Connecticut.

CMA Alert | February 25, 2021 | Center for Medicare Advocacy

In their new blog post, Melissa Burroughs, Danny A. Kalash, Colin Reusch, Ifetayo B. Johnson, and Kata M. Kertesz of Families USA, the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Community Catalyst, the Oral Health Progress and Equity Network (OPEN), and the Center for Medicare Advocacy discuss how the Biden-Harris administration is now uniquely positioned to make significant progress toward America’s oral health priorities.

"Americans are roughly four times more likely to lack dental insurance than medical insurance, with the greatest rates of uninsurance among racial and ethnic minorities. Without policy change to help people achieve oral health, we eventually strain the health care system and economy."

New Report Documents Causes and Cures for COVID-19 Crisis in Long-Term Care Facilities

New report by Health and Aging Policy Fellow Cinnamon St. John contends that #COVID19 exploited and exacerbated long-standing issues, such as staffing, infection control, and management problems that existed for decades in the long-term care industry.

New report explores nursing home responses to the coronavirus crisis and examines how residents’ deaths were not “inevitable”, as some have claimed.

CMA Alert | December 17, 2020 | Center for Medicare Advocacy

CMS recently introduced a new model described as “one of the most significant changes to the way Medicare beneficiaries receive health care since managed care was introduced into Medicare in the 1970s.” Plus, a new study emphasizes our position that time spent in observation status should count toward Medicare’s 3-day inpatient hospitalization requirement for SNF care. And without good oral health, complete health is simply not possible.
