According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), criminal-related deportations in the United States over a 9-year period were primarily driven by the following offenses:

❌ Immigration Violations
❌ Traffic Offenses
❌ Dangerous Drug Offenses
❌ Assault Convictions
❌ Weapon Offenses
❌ Burglary
❌ Theft or Larceny
❌ S*xual Assault
❌ Fraudulent Activities
❌ S*x Offenses

These offenses can lead to immediate legal consequences, including deportation, and highlight the importance of abiding by U.S. laws.

Immigrants must avoid involvement in these or any other criminal activities, as even minor infractions can lead to severe immigration penalties, including ineligibility for green cards, citizenship, or future immigration benefits.

During President Trump’s term from 2017 to 2021, there were approximately 472 executive actions on immigration. One concerning policy change was the increase in case denials paired with a decrease in requests for evidence (RFEs) and notices of intent to deny (NOIDs).

USCIS officers were given greater discretion to deny applications outright without providing applicants an opportunity to submit additional evidence. Traditionally, RFEs or NOIDs allow applicants time to address deficiencies, but many cases during this period were denied without this chance. More policies from this era are expected to resurface, raising concerns for immigration applicants.

A federal judge struck down the Biden administration’s “parole in place” program that was intended to give legal status to about half a million undocumented immigrants who entered the US illegally and have some qualifying relatives.

The program was in place for ONLY one week. This is likely the end of the program because DHS is unlikely to appeal this as President Trump's administration takes office in a few weeks.

If you were planning to file an application under this process, please do not proceed. This program has been declared illegal and struck down by the courts.

However, there are other legal pathways to obtaining a green card without leaving the country, even if you entered the U.S. without inspection or parole.

Reach out to us—we’re always ready to guide you through your options and help you find the best solution for your case.

Although this video wasn’t recorded recently, it still offers interesting insights into President Trump’s potential plans for the Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery program.

According to Project 2025, “the diversity visa lottery should be repealed,” as stated on page 145 of the book. Project 2025 is a 922-page book that outlines proposed policy goals for a second Trump administration. Although Trump has reportedly distanced himself from the project, it aligns closely with many of his policies.

There’s a strong possibility he may pursue this in an upcoming term, citing concerns about the program’s value and potential security risks.

Should the DV Lottery (Green Card Lottery) program be cancelled?

Holding a green card grants you the right to live and work in the U.S. permanently. However, permanent residency isn’t fully secure—green card holders can still be deported for certain violations, including:

❌ criminal convictions,
❌ immigration fraud,
❌ failure to maintain residency, and
❌ security concerns.

✅ If you qualify for U.S. citizenship, now is the time to apply, especially with possible changes to immigration rules coming soon.

✅ Becoming a citizen can provide added stability and security for your future in the U.S.

We are here to help you determine if you qualify to apply for US citizenship through the process of naturalization or alternative pathways. We’re always ready to help.

Trump is proposing that international students who graduate from a U.S. college or university should automatically receive a green card as part of their diploma. This would allow them to stay and work in the United States after finishing their studies, rather than going through the typical immigration processes to obtain permanent residency.

He suggests this should apply to anyone who completes an education at a U.S. institution, whether it’s a two-year college, four-year college, or even an advanced degree like a doctorate. The idea is to retain educated graduates in the country, potentially as a way to boost the U.S. workforce with skilled individuals trained in American institutions.

Speak with a trusted immigration attorney before leaving the United States because of some of these warnings.

Consulting an immigration attorney is essential before making major decisions—especially leaving the country—as it’s often easier to resolve immigration issues from within the U.S. Leaving can lead to serious penalties, like long-term bans or even a permanent bar in certain situations.
