Generalization Has To Be Planned

A skill is stronger when it works outside of the teaching table.

Across people.
Across rooms.
Across materials.
Across real routines.

Generalization does not always happen automatically. It should be intentionally planned and practiced.

The goal is meaningful progress in real life.

Communication Can Replace Behavior

Some challenging behavior happens because the learner does not yet have a safer or clearer way to communicate a need.

Functional Communication Training teaches a replacement communication response that serves the same purpose as the behavior.

That could look like asking for a break, help, attention, space, or access to something.

We do not just reduce behavior.
We teach what to do instead.

Prompts Are Temporary Support

Prompts can help a learner be successful while learning something new.

But prompts are not meant to stay forever.

A strong teaching plan includes prompt fading so the learner can build independence over time.

The goal is not β€œdoing it with help.”
The goal is doing it with the least support needed.

Reinforcement Is Personal

Reinforcement is not just giving a reward.

In ABA, something is only considered a reinforcer if it increases the chance that the behavior will happen again in the future.

That means reinforcement has to be individualized.
What works for one learner may not work for another.

Good ABA starts with knowing the learner.

Behavior Is Information

Behavior does not happen β€œout of nowhere.”

In ABA, we look at what happened before the behavior, what the behavior looked like, and what happened after. That helps us understand patterns instead of guessing.

When we understand the pattern, we can teach safer, more helpful skills.

Behavior is information. It is not a character flaw.

Day 2 of 7: Start Small

Routines do not need to be complicated to work.

Start with one part of the day. Maybe it is getting ready in the morning, coming home from school, mealtime, or bedtime.

Pick a routine, keep the steps the same, and praise your child as they follow through.

Small, simple, consistent steps can make a big difference over time. πŸ’š

➑️Home routines help kids feel calm, confident, and connected.
Simple steps. Predictable days. Less stress at home.

Home routines do more than keep the day organized β€” they help children feel safe, confident, and ready to learn.

When routines are predictable, children know what to expect. This can reduce stress, support smoother transitions, and increase independence with everyday skills like getting dressed, mealtime, homework, bath time, and bedtime.

Start small: choose one stressful part of the day, break it into simple steps, keep the order the same, and praise your child for following through.

Small routines can lead to big progress. πŸ’š Don't know where to start? Drop a comment below or reach out to the office for support!
