WLA joins the Louisville legal community in remembering Bart Greenwald, our 1994 recipient of the Humanitarian Award. Bart worked hard to amplify voices and rally support for causes that many overlooked. Members of our Board found an ally in Bart as we were called to community action throughout our years of practice. Bart’s advocacy and encouragement were often in the background, but they were always effective. Here’s to our ally, and may his memory continue to bless the lives he touched.

History is happening right now! Our panel for our March program, “Get in the Game! How Volunteer Lawyers Galvanize American Movements” includes Sarah McGeeney and Andrew Chandler, attorneys for the Kentucky Tenant Union. Earlier this week, they secured the first collective bargaining agreement between residential tenants and landlords in the American South. Sarah and Andrew worked with housing advocates, high-caliber negotiators, and tenants to craft and advance a multi-pronged tenants’ rights agenda. On Monday, KTU secured life-changing protections for these Kentuckians. Both Sarah and Andrew will address our membership on Thursday at the Jefferson County Law Library, from 11:30-1:00 to discuss their advocacy. If you have ever wondered whether you can make a difference to the people and causes you care about, while still working your full-time job and otherwise living a busy life, please come and hear these attorneys tell you how accessible that pursuit is (and how much your favorite causes really need you).
