💥 Tragic Loss in Los Angeles County: Scientist Fatally Shot 💥
Caltech astrophysicist Carl Grillmair, 67, celebrated for his work discovering water v***r on distant exoplanets and advancing our understanding of galaxies at NASA's Infrared Processing and Analysis Center, was shot and killed on the porch of his Llano home on February 16, 2026.
Deputies responded to a 911 call around 6:10 a.m. reporting an assault with a deadly weapon. Despite paramedics’ efforts, Grillmair was pronounced dead from a torso gunshot wound, and the medical examiner confirmed it as a homicide.
Freddy Snyder, 29, a local man previously arrested for carjacking, was taken into custody near the scene. On February 18, he was charged with murder, carjacking, and first-degree burglary (linked to a December 28 incident). Bail was set at $2 million, and authorities have not confirmed any motive or prior connection between Snyder and Grillmair.
A brilliant mind lost too soon, leaving a community and the scientific world in mourning. 🕯️
