Jonathan originally from East Hampton, Long Island, New York, has been in the Adirondacks for more than 20 years working in property management and in the construction business. During a recent Home Watcher LV inspection, we heard a smoke detector beeping. While changing the battery, we checked the detector and discovered it was dated 2009.

😳 That smoke detector is about 17 years old—roughly 7 YEARS beyond the typical 10-year replacement recommendation.

A new battery may stop the beeping, but a fresh battery doesn’t make an old smoke detector new.

Smoke detectors are easy to forget about. They sit quietly on the ceiling year after year—but when you need one, you need it to work.

More Water Damage Found During a Home Watch Inspection

During a previous Home Watch inspection, we discovered water damage at one of our customer’s homes and reported it so restoration could begin.

Unfortunately, the restoration process later stalled.

Our customer asked us to return to the property and check on the progress. During our re-inspection, we discovered additional water damage.

This is exactly why regular Home Watch inspections are so important—especially when a home is vacant and already undergoing repairs.

When restoration is delayed, problems don’t necessarily wait. What starts as one issue can quickly turn into additional damage and a much more expensive repair.

At Home Watcher LV, we don’t just check a box. We carefully inspect the home, look for changes or new problems, and report what we find so our clients can take action.
