The KC Streetcar just hit a major milestone. Since service began in 2016, it has now carried more than 20 million riders, and it got there on the back of a record summer.

In July alone, riders took 587,014 trips along the expanded 6.5-mile route, including a single-day record of 55,973 on July 11. Even after the FIFA World Cup wrapped up mid-month, ridership stayed strong at roughly 19,000 trips a day. For comparison, the streetcar carried 184,230 trips in July 2025, back when it ran only the original 2.2-mile downtown route.

Nearly three-quarters of those trips were to everyday destinations along the line like the City Market, Union Station, Power & Light, the Country Club Plaza, and UMKC. And it is still free to ride.
