This page has the entries from the diary kept by David Stoddard Greenough II (1787-1830) from 1814 to 1816 (200 years to the day he first wrote). Greenough was Harvard Class of 1805, practiced law, served as a justice of the peace in Massachusetts, and was lieutenant colonel of the Boston Independent Cadets. In 1813 he married Maria Foster Doane of Cohasset. Their first son was born on July 10, 18

14 (David Stoddard Greenough III). They resided in Jamaica Plain (then a part of Roxbury) near his father's home -- the Loring-Greenough House. The Loring-Greenough House was occupied after the Revolutionary War by five generations of Greenoughs. David Stoddard Greenough II inherited the house from his father in 1826. David Stoddard Greenough II was heir to one half of Noddle's Island. On his death it was sold to William Hyslop Sumner. Who incidentally, married DSG II's widow in 1836.
