Most business owners have never heard of the Augusta Rule, and that's exactly why it's worth knowing.

Under IRC Section 280A, you may be able to rent your own home to your own business for a limited number of days a year, and the income from that rental doesn't get taxed the way regular income does. Board meetings, planning sessions, and certain business events held at your home can qualify, as long as it's documented properly and the rent charged is reasonable for your area.

This isn't a loophole. It's a rule that's been on the books for years. Most people just aren't shown how to use it.

Here's the difference nobody explains clearly: tax preparation is what happens after the year is already over. Tax planning is what happens while the year is still in motion, when you still have options.

By the time your tax documents arrive, most of your decisions for that year are already locked in. The business owners who keep more of what they earn aren't doing anything magical. They're just having the conversation in June instead of waiting until March.
