🚨BREAKING: Florida rolls out major driver’s license change starting July 1 — citizenship status will be printed on the card!
As part of HB 991 (Florida’s version of the SAVE America Act) signed by Governor DeSantis, new and renewed driver’s licenses and state IDs will clearly indicate whether the holder is a U.S. citizen or has another legal immigration status.
Current license holders won’t need a special trip — the update will apply automatically at the next renewal or replacement. New U.S. citizens can get a free updated card.
The broader law also strengthens voter ID rules by removing student IDs, retirement community IDs, debit cards, and public assistance cards as acceptable forms of identification for voting. It adds disclosure requirements for candidates on stock trading and dual citizenship.
