A letter from our Dean:
Dear Hofstra Law Community,
I am delighted to report that Hofstra Law ranks 100th in the latest edition of the U.S. News rankings — our best ranking in seven years and an improvement of 18 places over the past two years! This latest ranking is the result of new initiatives, enhancements and recognitions across all areas of the Law School.
Our incoming class’s LSAT and GPA credentials have improved in each of the last two years. Our faculty ranks 49th nationally for the number of law journal citations over the past five years.
We rank 5th in New York state and 42nd nationally for our Gold-Standard job placement success for the Class of 2017.
One of our top priorities is to ensure that when our students graduate they are not merely "employable" but coveted. The impact of this philosophy was highlighted recently when one of our students accepted a 2020 clerkship with Judge Michael Garcia on the New York Court of Appeals. We have also seen an increase in students accepting federal and state court internships and clerkships.
In addition to these successes, Hofstra Law continues to be innovative in the classroom and impactful in our community.
We have developed new legal technology courses in cybersecurity, cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence, as well as new interdisciplinary programs with Hofstra University’s schools of Business, Engineering and Medicine.
This year, we launched the Wilbur F. Breslin Center for Real Estate Studies as part of Hofstra Law, and opened the Pro Se Legal Assistance Program, a free, limited-scope legal assistance program for self-represented litigants at the Eastern District of New York’s Central Islip federal courthouse.
We also look to engage our community by bringing nationally recognized speakers to campus. Last year, we had the privilege of hosting, on separate occasions, U.S. Supreme Court Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Stephen Breyer, and New York’s Chief Judge Janet DiFiore. I am pleased to announce that this year we will be hosting former U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch as our 2019 Commencement Speaker.
These accomplishments could not have been achieved without the help of our dedicated alumni, faculty, administrators and staff, as well as our outstanding students. I want to thank you all for your tireless efforts. Your continued support is crucial to Hofstra Law’s future successes.
Warmest regards,
Judge Gail Prudenti
Dean
