Let’s bust a common misconception in the sports world: "I’m too young to think about estate planning."

Reality: The moment you have income, a professional contract, or family responsibilities, you need a plan.

In our Athlete Legacy program, we see this all the time. Many athletes think estate planning is only for the end of a long life or reserved for the ultra-wealthy. But here’s the truth: estate planning is about protecting your decisions, not just your money.

Think about it this way: if you were sidelined tomorrow, who legally has the power to:
- Manage your bank accounts?
- Speak with your doctors?
- Handle your contract obligations?

Without a plan, those decisions might be left to a court or someone who doesn't truly know your wishes. It’s not about how much you have; it’s about making sure your hard work and your legacy stay in the right hands.

Planning ahead isn't about being pessimistic: it’s about being prepared. It gives you the freedom to focus on the game, knowing everything else is handled.

Imagine your 25-year-old child wins the lottery tomorrow.

Would you want them managing $2 million in cash immediately?

When I ask parents this, the answer is almost always a resounding "No."

But here’s the thing: Many of those same parents have estate plans that leave that exact same amount: or more: to their children in one lump sum if something happens to them.

An outright inheritance is essentially a "lottery win" without the celebration. Without a structure in place, that windfall can quickly become a burden. It can be lost to creditors, lawsuits, or just the lack of experience that comes with being young.

Trust planning isn’t about controlling your children. It’s about providing a safety net. It ensures the money is there for the big things: like a first home or education: while protecting them from the risks of receiving too much, too soon.

Whether you’re in MA, NY, NH, CO, or TN, we’re here to help you build a plan that empowers your family rather than overwhelming them.

What age do you think is "ready" for financial independence?

True wealth isn’t just about the numbers in a bank account. It’s about the quiet confidence that comes from knowing your family’s future is secure.

When we talk about legacy, we aren’t just talking about what you leave behind: we are talking about how you protect what you’re building today. Generational wealth starts with a decision to create a foundation that lasts.

At Legacy Gurus, we believe estate planning should be accessible and impactful for every family. Whether you are navigating your first home purchase, growing a business, or looking to protect your children’s inheritance, having a plan in place provides a sense of clarity that no other financial tool can offer.

It’s not about a stuffy lawyer experience. It’s about a down-to-earth conversation where we map out your values and ensure your wishes are legally protected.

The best time to build your legacy is while you have the clarity and time to do it right.

Let’s start the conversation.

If you weren’t here tomorrow, would your family know exactly where to find the things they need?

Estate planning is often seen as a stack of legal documents, but at its heart, it’s a gift of clarity for the people you love. When someone passes away, the last thing their family needs is the stress of a scavenger hunt.

Take a look at this list:

✅ Where your will is?
✅ Your passwords?
✅ Your life insurance company?
✅ Your mortgage information?
✅ Your healthcare wishes?

How many boxes could your family check today?

If you realized there are a few gaps, don't worry: that’s exactly why we’re here. We help families in MA, NY, NH, CO, and TN organize their legacy so their loved ones never have to guess.

What will people remember about you?

It won’t be your stats. It won’t be your contracts. It won’t even be your biggest endorsements. Those things define a career, but they don’t define a legacy.

When the stadium lights dim and the season ends, a true Hall of Fame legacy is built on something much more permanent. At Legacy Gurus, we believe a true legacy includes:

- Your family’s security and future.
- Your impact on your community.
- The values you live and pass down.
- The opportunities you create for others.

Athlete legacy is bigger than sport. It’s about building a foundation that ensures your hard work benefits the people and causes you care about for generations. Whether you are at the peak of your career or planning for the next chapter, it’s never too early to start thinking about the mark you’ll leave behind.

Let’s protect what matters most.

I've been an estate planning attorney for over a decade. Here are 3 things people tell me during consultations:

"I thought my spouse automatically got everything."
"I thought a will avoided probate."
"I thought my kids could just figure it out."

These are some of the most common myths I hear, and they often lead to unnecessary stress or costs for families later on. My goal is to clear up the confusion so you can make decisions based on facts, not assumptions.

Estate planning doesn’t have to be a "stuffy lawyer" experience. It’s about creating a clear path for the people you love. Whether you’re looking at wills, trusts, or just trying to understand how to protect your assets in MA, NY, NH, CO, or TN, we’re here to make the process down-to-earth and understandable.

What did you believe before learning about estate planning?

Wealth doesn’t come with an instruction manual, but a legacy should.

Many families focus entirely on the "what": the assets and the property. But the "how" is what ensures those assets serve your family for generations. There is an old saying that wealth often disappears by the third generation. Usually, this happens because the preparation of the heirs didn't match the preparation of the money.

True generational wealth is built on education. It’s about passing down the values and financial literacy that come with an inheritance. When you empower your family with knowledge, you aren't just giving them a gift: you're giving them the tools to sustain it.

Start building that educational foundation today:
- Host a family meeting to discuss values, not just numbers.
- Encourage financial literacy early, regardless of account size.
- Share the "why" behind your estate plan so they understand your vision.

Building a legacy is a team effort. How are you involving your family in your long-term plans?

How much do you need in the bank before a trust becomes "worth it"?

It’s a question I get all the time. Most people assume trusts are only for the ultra-wealthy or families with complicated portfolios.

Let’s see what you think. How much wealth do you need to justify a trust?

A) $100,000
B) $500,000
C) $1 Million
D) A trust isn't actually about wealth

The Reveal: If you chose D, you’re spot on.

Wealth is rarely the main driver for our clients. We use trusts to protect what matters most, regardless of the balance in your bank account:

🔹 Parents with young children (ensuring guardianship and managed inheritance).
🔹 Homeowners (to bypass the public and costly probate process in states like MA, NY, NH, CO, or TN).
🔹 Blended families (to protect children from a previous marriage).
🔹 Special needs families (to preserve essential government benefits).

A trust is a tool for control and clarity, not just a status symbol.

Which category surprised you the most?

Ever see a word in a contract that sounds professional but feels a little... off? 🚩

Contract Red Flag #1: "Company may use Athlete's name, image, likeness, photos, and videos in perpetuity."

What does "in perpetuity" actually mean in plain English? Answer: Forever.

It doesn’t mean for the length of the season or the length of the deal. It means that company owns the right to use your face, your voice, and your brand for the rest of time: even long after you’ve retired or moved on to new ventures.

Contract language shouldn't be a riddle designed to catch you off guard. We believe in transparency: knowing exactly what you're giving away before you sign on the dotted line. Your legacy is yours to own.

If you’re looking at a contract and the "fine print" feels more like a maze, it’s time for a fitness check. How fit is your current contract?

What's one lesson your father taught you that had nothing to do with money but shaped your life?

Maybe it was the value of a firm handshake, the importance of showing up on time, or the quiet patience he showed when things got tough.

When we talk about estate planning, most people immediately think about bank accounts, houses, and taxes. But at Legacy Gurus, we believe a true legacy is so much more than that. It’s about passing down your values, your stories, and the wisdom you’ve gathered along the way.

Whether you’re in MA, NY, NH, CO, or TN, we’re here to help you protect those values through personalized planning that feels human, not just legal. Planning for the future isn’t just a legal transaction; it’s an act of love. It’s making sure the lessons you’ve learned: and the person you are: continue to guide your family long after you’re gone.

I’d love to hear from you. What’s that one non-monetary lesson that stays with you?
