This is a state park, friends, not a pumpkin dump - in fact, it's illegal to leave them on public land. The seeds can interfere with native plants and upset restorations, among other things.

What you can do:
Add them to your garden or compost pile (remove the seeds unless you want a pumpkin patch next year)

Find a farmer - we hear goats love pumpkin!

Place them in your yard waste collection (check locally first)

Some cities may offer a special pumpkin pick-up or drop-off site

Pumpkins and other food scraps can attract wildlife, so compost away from the house and cover with a tarp or in a compost bin if possible.

But what about wildlife?
Yes, you can leave out pumpkins on your own property if you'd like.

But please don't leave out moldy, rotten or modified (such as painted) pumpkins, as they can be harmful to wildlife.

You can cut up pumpkin and leave it for small critters and birds, but it's really not necessary. Many critters are currently feeding on a good acorn crop and eating what nature has meant for them to eat. They'll be more than fine without pumpkins!
