Buyout Program: The Trump administration has implemented a deferred-resignation plan, offering buyouts to federal employees as part of cost-cutting measures. Approximately 75,000 workers have accepted these offers, allowing them to remain on the payroll with full benefits until September 30, 2025. Despite legal challenges from labor unions, a federal judge ruled that the program can proceed, stating that the unions lacked standing to contest the policy.

An "expungement" is the sealing and destruction of criminal court records relating to an arrest or a conviction. South Carolina law allows for expungements under limited circumstances. We cannot expunge media related information, which includes newspapers, television, radio, social media, websites or information available to private background screening providers.
Because of the extensive changes in the expungement laws, we are unable to answer questions by telephone. You must submit an application in person or by mail along with current picture identification and a final disposition for each charge from the arresting agency or the Clerk of Court. Most applications will require fees. All fees must be paid in the form of a money order or attorney checks. All fees are non-refundable regardless of whether the charge is found to be ineligible for expungement.

Laws regarding expungements are subject to change at any time with or without notice. This document is not a substitute for legal advice. You may consult with or hire an attorney to assist with your expungement application.
