There are women who speak your name in rooms you are not it, and the ones who go a step further and invite you in to their network. Audrey Barnes has done both for me in the years I’ve known her. I strive to do the same for not just my friends and colleagues, but for our clients as well. If you are an entrepreneur, you know that a stranger or colleague is more likely to support your business than a friend or family member. When that all too rare crossover happens, you better believe I’m flying back to Maryland for 24 hours to be in the room! Thank you Audrey and LeTip of Howard County for a great morning.

I’m back home in Florida after two weeks on the road (or in the air). It’s finally a little cooler and “locals season” at the beach.

The shift isn’t just the cooler weather or the salt in the air, so much has changed personally and professionally since I launched my firm almost two years ago. Time is limited and I’ve had to make choices around who and what matters.

I also have the space to be selective about the clients I work with. Female founders and entrepreneurs at all stages of growth.

Women like me who are balancing entrepreneurship, planning for and protecting their families and what they have built, and helping them find ways to do well and do good through charitable giving and nonprofits.

This week is about onboarding our newest team member, implementing some automations we’ve been working on, getting documents out the door, and generally doing the non-social media, visually uninteresting work that really makes a business grow.

The last leg of my trip is my in-between home, Maryland. My business is here, my friends are here, and my extended family is here. But that’s not why I’m here this time.

This trip was mostly to support “Day of Belonging” a Mission Belonging annual event. Mission Belonging (formerly Community Building Art Works) is a veteran serving nonprofit organization my sister co-founded almost ten years ago. It has grown into a community of radical acceptance and a peaceful space in the fray that has a life of its own. I’m a participant, a donor, and also a member of the Mission Belonging Board Governance Committee who remains in awe of the thoughtfulness and professionalism of this team.

A trip to Maryland always includes client meetings and networking, and staying at my sister’s home makes the whole thing feel more like an extended sleepover than the marathon work trip it often is.

Today we recognize Citizenship and Constitution Day, by reflecting on the rights, freedoms, and opportunities protected under our constitution.

The constitution provides the legal foundation that shapes all of our lives, protects our rights, and helps create freedoms for individuals, families, and business to help build their futures.

I spent last week in Utah visiting my son and working from a cute little condo nestled in the red cliffs. He’s in a program there that has been really good for him, but sometimes you need mom to come see you.
I took a quick trip back to LA to meet my older daughter to shop for a second look dress and take in Game Three ✌️with some of my favorite girls. Back to Utah, where I met up with my dear friend slcnews so we could co-work by day and hit the hot springs and take in the beauty of the region in the evening. I had the honor of co-facilitating the legal and finance portion of the Maryland Women’s Business Center’s second cohort of Founder’s Rising, and then off to the airport and back to Maryland. There’s a freedom that comes from flexibility. Making it work isn’t always easy, but being able to support my family when they need me and build a business I’m really proud of at the same time is absolutely worth it.

After Raj left, I moved to Jenna’s apartment and once she left for work I realized the charger I had for laptop 2 wasn’t working.

I’m still perfecting my mobile office setup. Last month I had to express order a notary seal for a Maryland signing. I’m definitely taking recommendations beyond what Instagram is sending me for a good way to travel with two devices and all the accessories!

I had Instacart deliver a charger, and I was back in business. I knocked out a revocable trust, an estate administration issue, and some contract reviews while I supervised the cleaning of Jenna’s apartment by a lovely young lady who did it far more efficiently than I could.

In the evening I headed out to Century City Mall. I used to live 5 minutes away from the mall and probably went three times last year, mostly when the girls were home.

Now I just marvel at all the stores and stock up on things like Trader Joe’s and take in the smell of Nordstrom 😂

I made a new friend in the Bloomingdale’s shoe department in my quest to find the perfect wedding shoe for Inshira and then Jenna picked me up for a redo of birthday dinner. We were home and knocked out by 10 pm.
