Florida Cop Charged After Bodycam Shows Him Use a Taser On a Mentally Handicapped Man

What an indignity. This man with a developmental disability has probably been bullied all his life, and now again by someone whose job it is to protect him. No justification for this. The bully cop should eat a felony and get real jail time.

Cops who arrest the Press Corps for no good reason need to be fired and go to jail. We cannot allow ourselves to succumb to a lawless police state.

Chief justice's sweeping new orders on criminal cases could do more harm than good, critics say

Excerpt: “On March 23, Cantil-Sakauye suspended all jury trials in the state for two months. On Saturday, the state Judicial Council — the policy arm of the court system — approved new measures that extended the time frame during which someone who is arrested and charged with a crime must be brought before a judge for arraignment. Under the new measures, that time frame has stretched from 48 hours to seven days. The Judicial Council also extended the time frame during which a preliminary hearing must be set — from 10 days to 30 days. Under current law, if a preliminary hearing is not held within 10 days the person can be released. ‘About the worst place you can be in a ... pandemic is locked up in a jail or prison,’ said Stephen Munkelt, executive director of California Attorneys for Criminal Justice, a statewide organization of criminal defense lawyers.”

Critics say the new emergency powers handed to the state's chief justice will put inmates in peril by keeping them longer in local jails, a potential breeding ground for coronavirus

“Let every man remember that to violate the law is to trample on the blood of his father, and to tear the charter of his own and his children’s liberty. Let reverence for the laws be breathed by every American mother to the lisping babe that prattles on her lap; let it be written in primers, spelling books, and almanacs; let it be preached from the pulpit; proclaimed in the legislative halls, and enforced in courts of justice. In short, let it become the political religion of the nation.” - Abraham Lincoln
