📣 Update from the NDSA 📣
PAST:
The NDSA was formed in late 2002. We are fiscally sponsored by the FMAF, which manages our funds and ensures all donations directly support our mission: to increase youth skateboarding participation in the FM area and promote its physical, mental, and social benefits.
One of our primary goals has been to establish a public indoor skate park. While we planned to expand the Hawks Nest last year, the facility was unfortunately closed due to zoning issues. After exploring rezoning and conditional use permits, we determined that the costs and lack of guarantees made staying at that site unfeasible. Consequently, we have decided to find a new space.
PRESENT:
We spent much of the past year searching for a new location. During this time, I stepped away for several months to focus on personal and professional obligations, which contributed to a quieter year for the NDSA.
Managing the organization as both Board President and Executive Director, I have overseen events such as the Hawks Nest BBQs, Go Skateboarding Day, Night Bazaars, The Blank Skate Project, and various youth camps. These programs succeed only through the dedication of our volunteers and donors. I want to sincerely thank everyone who has contributed time or resources; your support makes this work possible.
FUTURE:
Our mission remains unchanged. We continue to raise funds for a public indoor park, recognizing that a new space will require significant investment. We are also focused on increasing skateboarding’s visibility and getting more kids on boards this year by developing stronger partnerships with local businesses and organizations.
This year, the NDSA will:
- Host activities for Go Skateboarding Day.
- Partner with Folkways to bring a new ramp setup to the Night Bazaars.
- Relaunch the Blank Skate Project, merging skateboarding, art, and music.
- Expand youth camps to provide more active, screen-free opportunities for kids.
Thank you for your continued support. If you have questions, ideas, or would like to get involved, please reach out via social media or email us through our website at NDskateboarding.com.
