CANstruction is a charity that holds design and build competitions with cans, which are donated to local food banks or community feeding programs. Each year Samaha participates in the competition with an original "canstruction". This year we created “We Bee-Leaf In You”, which won the award for Best Use of Labels.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department

Earlier today, Fire Chief Butler hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on the site of what will be Fire Station 44, Scotts Run. The new station, slated to open in early 2021, will serve the growing Tysons area as well as Pimmit Hills and portions of McLean. Supervisors Smyth and Faust were in attendance. #FCFRD #FairfaxCounty

New Station 6 (Coles District) Opens

On Monday, September 23rd, the newly constructed Prince William County Department of Fire & Rescue Station 6 (Coles District) opened. The old station, adjacent to the new station, is scheduled for demolition.

David Patnode and Amy McCarty, AIA, LEED AP on a site visit to Calvin M. Rodwell Elementary/Middle School. Our team is designing a replacement facility for this school, which will house pre-K through eighth grade.

Randy Morrison, RA, ICC visiting DC Water Headquarters. Samaha was the Construction Administration Owner's Representative through design and construction. We did the pre-planning, financial justification/budgeting masterplanning, programming, and interiors for this project.

Check out the Samaha team on a tour of ongoing construction for the new Tilden Middle School and Rock Terrace School in Rockville, MD! The project is a complex revitalization and expansion collocating the two schools on the site of the current Tilden Housing School. When completed this 244,561 SF, 3 and 2 story building will have a capacity of 1,215 students, and the Rock Terrace School, a special needs school, is designed to accommodate 120 students. The project will be completed in the Summer of 2020!

We’ve always appreciated the opportunity to support Fairfax County. Our firm has designed 10 of their fire stations over the years including 4 of the stations shown in their recent post. Fairview, Frying Pan, Kingstowne, and Crosspointe.

This year, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department celebrates its 70th anniversary. Today, as part of the celebration, we are looking at the origins of Fire Stations 32 through 42. #FCFRD #FCFRD70 #FCFRDHistory

Samaha's 2017 Thanksgiving Dinner! Did someone say food comma? We had traditional Thanksgiving foods, as well as other foods from around the world like pickles stuffed with rice and chocolate creme pastry desserts. Such an amazing spread of food this year!

Check out the professional photos of the 155,000 SF Silver Creek Middle School just completed in Bethesda, MD!! The purpose of this new middle school is to accommodate growth and help alleviate overcrowding at Westland Middle School. This new building is designed for a capacity of 944 students with the core spaces designed to accommodate 1,200 students. Twelve (12) additional classrooms have been master-planned for future expansion.

Building design goals included:

• Creating a defined and welcoming entry with administrative suite control and supervision.
• Designing a building with functional spatial relationships.
• Developing a facility that allows easy supervision of students.
• Allowing convenient and secure non-school hours access to activity areas of the building.
• Designing a structure that respects the surrounding neighborhood.
• Minimizing the footprint of the building to preserve existing green space and trees.

This project will be registered and certified with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver or higher, through the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).

"Purrge Hunger" is our 2017 Canstruction creation. Canstruction is a competition with other Architecture Firms in the area to raise awareness and contributions for the Arlington Food Assistance. The can sculptures are on display in the baggage claim area of Reagan National Airport all week. Check it out!

Samaha won 3rd place at Posh Pumpkin 2017! Our Steampunk Dragon is made of pumpkins and gourds, with pumpkin seeds for dragon scales. Mini pumpkins were carved to create "gears" at the dragons joints.

We are excited to announce the Grand Opening of Prince William County's Fire & Rescue Station #26! The station was designed to fit on a tight site by creating a two-story facility and minimizing the site area dedicated to systems through incorporating mezzanines and mechanical systems that do not require exterior boilers or cooling towers. The design meets all of fire and rescue’s programmatic needs within the budget and initial programmed square footage. This station included public presentations and a requirement for visual compatibility with a previously designed adjacent police station.

An exiting update at Congressional School in Falls Church,VA. The school corridors have been updated with a word wall, new paint, lighting, lockers, tack boards, door wayfinding panels and this week Patcraft carpeting went in. The subtle integration of red with taupe really pulls the schools branding together throughout the space.

Samaha modeled for Cosmo Couture 2017 last night. We partnered with Armstrong Flooring to create an outfit out of sheet vinyl flooring and scribing felt floor underlayment for a fashion show competition with other design firm/architecture firms in the area.

Check out our Cosmo Couture 2017 progress photo's!! Cosmo Couture is a fashion show being put on by IIDA tomorrow, September 28th, at the Howard Theatre in Washington, DC. A portion of the proceeds are donated to Rebuilding Together of Washington, DC. We are partnering with Armstrong Flooring to create an outfit primarily made out of sheet flooring and scribing felt.
