“Just communicate better” is easy advice to give when you’re not the one dealing with the conflict.

Real co-parenting may involve legal decisions, finances, emotional stress, and two very different households. That’s why one perspective often isn’t enough.

Financial abuse does not always look like abuse.

It can look like having no access to accounts, being excluded from major financial decisions, having every purchase questioned, or discovering debts you never knew existed.

In her Brainz Magazine article, Debra Whitson discusses the warning signs women should recognize—and why protecting financial independence can be an important part of protecting your future.

Every woman is building something worth protecting.

This Women’s Equality Month, we recognize the executives, physicians, business owners, professionals, mothers, caregivers, entrepreneurs—and every woman whose strength, work, and choices have shaped the life she has today. At WhitsonLaw, we believe being a high achiever is not defined only by a title, income, or career. Every woman who has worked to build a future for herself and her family deserves to have that future protected.

When divorce or another family law matter puts your finances, family, or future at stake, informed strategy matters. We are committed to helping women move forward with clarity, confidence, and a plan built around what matters most.

Strong legal strategy requires clients who are prepared to make informed decisions.

WhitsonLaw is proud to welcome John J. Haverlick, LCSW-R, as our Divorce Support Consultant, expanding the coordinated support we provide to clients navigating divorce, custody, and other complex family law matters.

With more than 50 years of experience working with individuals and families, John will work alongside our attorneys to help clients prepare for important legal milestones, manage the practical challenges surrounding their cases, and approach consequential decisions with greater clarity.

This new role reflects an important part of how we practice family law: legal representation should address the case strategically while recognizing the very real pressures our clients face throughout the process.

Your child may be moving between two homes—but they should not have to move through adult tension.

Co-parenting transitions can become some of the most emotionally charged moments after divorce or separation. Children often take their cues from the adults around them, which means a calm handoff can help them feel safer, steadier, and more secure.

Pause before the exchange. Keep the conversation brief and respectful. Follow the parenting plan. Save difficult discussions for another time.

During National Wellness Month, remember: emotional regulation is not about ignoring your feelings. It is about protecting your child from having to carry them.
