Forced to quit? That might be constructive discharge.

You reported a problem to HR. Then your duties started disappearing. The write-ups showed up. Suddenly you’re on an improvement plan that feels built to fail, and someone asks if you’ve “thought about leaving.”

If your employer makes your job so intolerable that a reasonable person would feel they had no choice but to quit, the law may treat your resignation like a firing.

✅ Demotions or losing responsibilities ✅ A pattern of pressure to resign ✅ Problems that started after you spoke up ❌ A tough boss or one bad review usually isn’t enough
⚠️ Before you accept a “mutual resignation” or severance offer, know this: those agreements almost always include a release. Once you sign, your claim is very likely gone.

Don’t sign anything until an employment lawyer reviews it.

Your car got fixed. So why is it worth thousands less?

It’s called diminished value, and it’s one of the most overlooked losses after a wreck. Even when repairs are done perfectly, a car with an accident history is worth less to a buyer or a dealer. You feel it at trade-in, at resale, and in what you still owe on your loan.

In Texas and New Mexico, diminished value is generally a claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance company, not your own. And the adjuster isn’t likely to bring it up. They pay for repairs and close the file.

Insurance companies pay what you ask for, and what you know to ask for. After a wreck, ask what you lost, not just whether the car got fixed.

Under the federal Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA), if your employer has 15 or more employees, they are legally required to provide reasonable accommodations.

📌 Save this post so you have this checklist if you ever need it.

Accommodations your employer must consider:
* A chair or stool to sit during shifts
* Additional water and bathroom breaks
* Modified lifting requirements
* Scheduled time off for prenatal doctor visits
What your employer CANNOT do:
* Force you onto unpaid leave instead of accommodating you
* Demand that you be “100% cleared” to work
* Write you up, punish, or fire you for requesting accommodations
Important note for Texas & New Mexico workers:
* Texas: While the State of Texas sued to block the PWFA for state government employees, private company workers anywhere in Texas are still 100% protected under federal law.
* New Mexico: Workers are fully protected.

⚠️ Don’t wait: You may have as little as 180 days from the date of the violation to file a claim and protect your rights.

The bankruptcy does not mean survivors lose their right to justice.
It establishes a structured court process for compensation.

A court-ordered deadline of September 11, 2026, has been established for filing claims related to clergy and institutional abuse within the Catholic diocese in our region.

Through these legal proceedings, the diocese is moving to permanently resolve and close out liability for historical claims. Once this date passes, the legal window closes for good—meaning survivors will no longer have a civil court path to hold the institution accountable, even if they only feel ready to speak years from now.

This deadline applies across the Borderland—including El Paso, Las Cruces, and surrounding Southern New Mexico communities—and covers harm that occurred decades ago or more recently, involving priests, Catholic school teachers, coaches, and church staff.

New Mexico has approved a new path to practice law without taking the bar exam — 675 hours of supervised work instead. It’s expected to roll out in 2027… but is that enough?
