A court-ordered deadline of September 11, 2026, has been established for filing claims related to clergy and institutional abuse within the Catholic diocese in our region.
Through these legal proceedings, the diocese is moving to permanently resolve and close out liability for historical claims. Once this date passes, the legal window closes for goodāmeaning survivors will no longer have a civil court path to hold the institution accountable, even if they only feel ready to speak years from now.
This deadline applies across the Borderlandāincluding El Paso, Las Cruces, and surrounding Southern New Mexico communitiesāand covers harm that occurred decades ago or more recently, involving priests, Catholic school teachers, coaches, and church staff.
If you or someone you know was impacted:
* Private & Confidential: Reaching out is simply a conversation, not a commitment to file. You stay in control of what you share and when.
* How to connect: Send a discreet Direct Message here, call915-269-7140 jvwlaw.net.
Even if this is not your story, sharing this post helps ensure no one in our community is left without answers before the cutoff.
