Your will, life insurance, retirement accounts, trusts, and payable-on-death accounts don’t operate in isolation.
And they don’t necessarily follow the same instructions.
Beneficiary designations can control where certain assets go regardless of what your will says. A trust can only control assets that are properly connected to it. And an estate plan that looks perfect on paper can produce a very different result if the ownership and beneficiary designations don’t match the plan.
That’s why estate planning is more than signing documents.
A good plan looks at how your assets are owned, how they transfer, and whether all of those pieces are actually working together.
