Of all the closings Jesse, Madi and I have been part of, this one will stay with us forever. Yesterday, Jesse’s mom — Donna, closed on her home in Oklahoma. She’s officially an OklaHomie.

This past July, Donna lost her son, we lost our brother, uncle and best friend and Dahlia and Lilith lost their dad. None of us knew what life was going to look like after that. But in the middle of her own grief, Donna said, “I’m selling my house in Texas and coming to help you raise the girls.” And she meant it.

I know leaving the home and life she knew wasn’t easy. She did it so Dahlia and Lilith could have their grandma close, and so we could all be together as we learn how to live through this.

I wish Dylan could have been standing beside us. There will always be an ache in moments like this because he should be here. But seeing Jesse with his mom at the closing table, knowing she’s staying close to his girls, meant more to us than I can put into words.

Donna, you have given so much of yourself to this family. We are so grateful for you. Welcome home. 🤍

This one started over two years ago with a referral from The Hinds family and turned into lots of conversations, lots of planning, and a whole lot of hard work on their end.
