Last week, I attended the Edwards Abstract and Title Co. State of Real Estate Forum featuring economist Dr. Ted Jones.

Dr. Jones said one thing that stood out to me during the presentation - if you have clients waiting for mortgage rates to get better, then tell them to do it now, because this is 'better'. The historic lows during the pandemic were a one-off, and will likely never be that again.

There's a saying amongst real estate professionals: "date the rate, marry the house". And nothing was more evident of that than my clients who refinanced their mortgage after spending the last 3 years working on their credit and were able to qualify for a lower rate.

As a Certified Notary Signing Agent, I was happy to assist them with that. ✒️📃

🚨 IMPORTANT UPDATES 🚨

It is now a Class A Misdemeanor for a Notary Public to notarize any document without the party present with a valid ID.

It is now a state jail felony to do so for any documents pertaining to real estate.

At Iris Notary Services, we have always required presenting parties to show a valid form of identification. With real estate documents, we have always referred clients to consult with a title company beforehand. This helps to eliminate instances of fraud or deception.

We applaud these measures by the State of Texas to ensure that documents are handled appropriately by all Notary Publics and lift the statute of integrity to its highest measure. Clients have ALWAYS required the absolute best of us.

I'm working this Saturday night renewing my commitment to provide accurate, complete, and secure loan closings to anyone who needs them.
