Beware of high-priced notary “credentials” sold by unfamiliar organizations.

Titles such as “Master Notary” are not recognized by any state commissioning authority and carry no official status.

Florida notary education providers must be approved by the Executive Office of the Governor. Before purchasing a credential or designation, make sure the organization is an approved provider and that the credential has actual recognition.

Don’t pay for a title that only exists because someone is selling it.

Whether a suffix (Jr, Sr, II, III) is present or absent on identification presented for notarization purposes is irrelevant. The suffix is not regarded as part of the legal name by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles or the Social Security Administration.

Section LR12.1.3 of the Florida Driver License Operations Manual: “Suffixes such as junior (Jr.) and senior (Sr.) can be added or deleted at the request of the customer. Identification is not required since it does not change the customer’s identity or driver license number.”

Section RM 10212.001(A)(1) of the Social Security Program Operations Manual: “We do not consider the middle name or suffix part of the legal name.”

BEWARE of Florida notary “handbooks” and “primers” that are not issued by state-approved notary education providers. Only those providers approved by the Executive Office of the Governor are authorized to offer notary education in Florida. (The list of approved providers is here: https://www.flgov.com/eog/info/notary/education). Do not take advice from any self-proclaimed educator who is not approved by the State of Florida.
