THE COST OF STAYING SAFE

Here’s the double bind: You’re miserable in your current career. You feel done practicing law. The still small voice’s whispers have amplified to screams.

But alongside those soul nudges there’s another voice hollering equally loudly and sometimes even more so: your ego voice. This is the one blasting you with messages formed from fear - false evidence appearing real. The fear voice is the “what if” voice - what if I leave the law and later regret it? What if I can’t make a comparable income? What if I have to give up all the comfort and fun things my current salary allows me to have?

If you stay in your legal job until you’ve come up with answers to all the “what if’s” of your fear voice, guess what - you’ll NEVER leap. Your reptilian brain - the part associated with fight-or-flight - will come up with a million reasons why your safety - your very survival - depends on you staying in your current comfort zone, even though you’ve outgrown it.

Then answer is to join Raising the Bar, where you’ll receive mentoring and guidance that will help you shift from fear to the courageous mindset that leads to inspired action. The program gives you support from us, two former attorneys who have been in your shoes, and have stepped forward and taken the journey you’re embarking on now. We know there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, a fulfilling and vibrant life waiting for you that’s perhaps beyond what you can imagine now.. We can walk with you there, offering practical tools and techniques that will help you develop a positive mindset to counter the fear and self-doubt, encouragement, and reassurance every step of the way.

This program will give you clarity on your direction and tell you exactly what you need to do to make your vision of life beyond the law your reality.

Most of us dig in our heels and aren’t willing to change until it becomes too painful not to. This creates a lot of unnecessary suffering.

The truth is you don’t have to let it get that bad before you embrace change.

As you become more aware, you can choose to evolve with greater ease, refusing to endure and tolerate pain generated by your fear and uncertainty of the unknown.

You can listen to and acknowledge the small nudges that it’s time to make a change so that you don’t have to get hit by a 2x4 upside the head like a cancer diagnosis, losing your job, or the end of your romantic relationship.

How loudly are the messages you’ve been receiving? Are they coming in whispers, or through a megaphone?

How loud do your soul nudges need to become before you’re willing to listen?

Gather your courage! Comment below and let us know.

I DREAD PRACTICING LAW MORE THAN DYING! PART 3

When we decided to take the leap out of law, both of us floundered in different ways. We’d hoped we would sprout wings when we leapt...Instead we flopped. We landed hard. Crashed and burned.

What we were both lacking was the right mentoring, mindset, and blueprint to help expedite the path. We wish we’d had what we’re offering you now.

Alaina spent 6 years searching for her authentic purpose. During those 6 years, all the structures of her life collapsed. Her marriage fell apart, she went into significant debt and she still didn’t have a clue who she wanted to be when she grew up. She left the law to reduce her stress, but instead it skyrocketed until she learned and mastered various mindset techniques to rewire her brain. This completely changed her life. She found a mentor that helped her discover her true purpose. She created her passion business as a transformational mindset and business coach, earning six-figures in her second year.

Bridget left her practice and went back to grad school for a masters in creative writing. By the time she graduated, her school loan debt was six-figures. For the next few years, she bounced around in various legal and administrative jobs, earning far less money than she’d made in her law practice but gaining time to work on her writing.

It took several years before she discovered another passion that could pay the bills while she wrote: teaching yoga. This led to studying energetics, meditation and other mindset practices. Bridget eventually combined these skills to serve clients through personal transformation coaching and mentoring. AND she used those same tools herself. Her first novel was sold to Simon & Schuster for a six-figure advance.

Now our paths have converged and we’re eager to support other women with the mentoring we wish we’d had years ago.

If you resonate with our stories, we’d love to help you quickly and easily transition out of the law without repeating the same mistakes we made. We’ll give you proven, practical mindset tools to create the unique blueprint for your ideal success. We’re committed to paying forward the knowledge and expertise we’ve gleaned from our experiences. We’d love to add YOU to our list of clients who have successfully created fulfilling and prosperous careers!

I DREAD PRACTICING LAW MORE THAN DYING! PART 2

At first, the signals that we weren’t happy practicing law sent us into even more fear, confusion and despair. The gap between the reality of our lives as lawyers was so different from what we’d hoped for, that leaving felt like the only answer.

But we didn’t know ANYONE who had taken a leap out of a lucrative legal career.

For a while, confusion reigned. We hated the long hours and the adversarial nature of the job, but we also questioned whether there was something wrong with US.

Why wasn’t the financial success and professional esteem enough?

For years we tried to ignore the inconvenient truth that our insistent inner voice was making so clear.

Eventually, we both reached the same conclusion: We needed to quit.

Accepting that realization was a relief, however, it wasn’t the solution; it was the beginning of a new set of challenges.

While we longed for a mentor or someone else who could help us pave the way, no fairy godmother came to our aid.

Our paths to defining and creating success on our terms have been long and winding.

There’s a big difference between knowing you need to leave something and knowing what you’re going to do next. Even if you know what you want to do, you may not have any idea of how to figure it out.

We both had a piece that made taking the leap easier.

Bridget dreamed of being a writer since she was a little girl. She continued to take writing classes even when she was practicing law. Buying into the collective belief that she’d be a starving writer, she feared she’d have to give up her comfortable salary and lifestyle. Then there was the law school loans she’d have to pay back. She needed a reliable consistent income stream to meet her debts and expenses.

Alaina had the financial resources Bridget didn’t, with half a million dollars in savings. But when she took the leap out of law she had no clue what she wanted to do next. For the next 4 years she floundered trying different careers to find what her true purpose was. She learned that she was really good at a lot of things, not all of which she was meant to do. She maintained the same level of lifestyle while practicing law, but no longer had the big income. Within 4 years, all the money was gone and she accumulated almost $100,000 in debt.

Stay tuned for Part 3 where we follow the yellow brick road to lucrative and fulfilling careers and lifestyles.

I DREAD PRACTICING LAW MORE THAN DYING! PART 1

If this is how YOU feel, we can relate.

We both went into the law with high hopes…

We told ourselves that with a JD came a high level of regard. Practicing law would make us feel seen, validated and appreciated by ourselves and the outside world.

When we went to law school, LA Law, and all its thrilling allure, was at the height of it’s prominence...our vision of who we could be as attorneys was fed by Hollywood and the hope that we could surpass what was possible for the generations of women who’d come before us.

We listened to and believed in what our families and society told us would make us successful…

We thought we’d have that glamorous LA Law lifestyle. All that prestige.

We had no idea the price we’d pay to try to achieve that though. Despite nagging doubts, almost from the very beginning, that we were heading in the wrong direction, we bought in to the traditional collective vision of success 100%.

Despite a lack of passion about our law practices and feeling as if we were simply going through the motions, we were financially successful, earning steady promotions and raises, climbing the ladder.

On the outside it looked like we had it all. On the inside, we felt empty. Our lives lacked meaning and fulfillment.

You might think that the more successful we became the more our doubts would subside, Instead, it was just the opposite.

Alongside our success, what started out as mild regret, doubt and dissatisfaction, escalated into panic attacks severe enough to send Bridget to the emergency room and stress triggered repeated miscarriages and autoimmune issues for Alaina, requiring a diet so restrictive that she couldn’t eat more than 10 specific foods.

Finally, these chronic symptoms got disruptive enough to force us to pay attention.

Tune in Saturday to find out what happened when the Universe stopped gently knocking on the door and started knocking us upside the head with a 2x4.

DO YOU FEEL DISILLUSIONED WITH YOUR LEGAL CAREER, like an imposter - you’re living the “American Dream” but you’re not happy?

We’ve been there too!

We felt worn down, overwhelmed and lost before we made the leap out of the law.

At the time, some people told us leaving was courageous, but to us it felt like there was no other choice.

Our decision was not so much fueled by a vision of what we could be or do next but by misery and desperation. Our happiness (maybe even our lives) depended on making a significant change.

Making the decision to leap brought temporary relief. We were finally listening to the still small voice within. But following our bliss didn’t lead to instant ease and prosperity.

Instead we spent tens of thousands of hours and dollars trying to figure out what we really wanted to do and how to make that lucrative.

Raising the Bar is the program we wish we’d had when we made our career transitions.

Our passion is helping other women avoid the pitfalls we faced and creating a clear and easy prosperity and success on your terms
