The IRS has officially started processing returns! If you’re looking to get your money back as fast as possible, here is what you need to know for 2026:

✅ The 21-Day Rule: The IRS expects to issue more than 9 out of 10 refunds in less than 21 days for those who:

⏳ Claiming EITC or ACTC?
If you claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit or Additional Child Tax Credit, federal law requires the IRS to hold your refund until mid-February. Most of these filers should see their funds by March 2, 2026.

Don't guess! Use the "Where's My Refund?" tool on IRS.gov or the IRS2Go app.
E-filers: Check status 24 hours after filing.
Paper filers: Check status 4 weeks after mailing.
