Two things come to mind from this: 1) if these cops want to protect murderers then they need to hand over their guns and badges and 2) if there are a lot of non-arrest power things that cops normally do that the military can do, why are cops doing those things in the first place?

People with power to arrest should be a small group of highly trained individuals as fully committed to protecting the constitution as our military is. They should know the constitution and civil rights inside and out. They should NOT view civil rights as a line they can run right up to and drag their toes just inside of but rather as an absolute red line that should only be approached with extreme caution and extreme respect for the rights of individuals.

The constitution is the supreme law of our land. Violating the constitution is a criminal act. Chief Justice Marshall said so in Marbury vs Madison, the most famous Supreme Court case ever. Cops who violate civil rights are criminals. This isn't eve a gray area. It is an absolute fact.

Cops and government officials have twisted our language since 1805 specifically so that they could avoid being seen as criminals when they commit criminal acts. Originalists have to accept Chief Justice Marshall's words as the original interpretation or they aren't origionalists.

Those who are handed government power must be held to higher standards NOT lower standards.

The Enforcement Bill HB4240 that gives the police an option to ticket a parent refusing to release the children has made it out of committee and to the full House floor. It is scheduled on the General State Calendar for Monday, May 3, 2021.
