Before you file, hereโs something many notaries donโt realizeโฆ
๐ Notarization fees are exempt from Self-Employment tax.
This means the income you earn specifically for performing notarizations may not be subject to the 15.3% self-employment tax.
The problem?
Many tax preparers donโt know this rule and file all notary income the same way โ which can cause notaries to pay more in taxes than they should.
As someone who is notary and signing agent, I understand how to properly handle things like:
โ๏ธ Separating notary fees vs signing service income
โ๏ธ Mileage, printing, and supply deductions
โ๏ธ Schedule C reporting for signing agents
โ๏ธ The notary self-employment tax exemption
If you're a notary or loan signing agent who hasn't filed yet, Iโd be happy to help.
๐๐ฝ Comment "NOTARY" or send me a message and Iโll share a quick checklist of what you should have ready before filing.
Letโs make sure youโre not paying more than you should.
