⚠️ REALTORS AND LENDERS!! Do you know that every single day, you are a target of cyber criminals?
They want access to your email to impersonate you and your title company, and trick your buyers and sellers into sending funds to fraudulent accounts.
🔐 You have to be aware of this real threat to protect yourself and your clients from falling victim to sophisticated fraudsters.
🍊 PHISHING: Scammers trick you into giving away your login information by emailing you links or attachments that appear to be from trusted websites like Dotloop, DocuSign, and more. Once they have your login information, they can target all of your buyers, sellers, and partners because they have access to all transaction details. Criminals begin to impersonate your title company, to get the transaction funds diverted to their false accounts.
**ALWAYS HOVER OVER LINKS BEFORE YOU CLICK, TO ENSURE THAT THE LINK IS TAKING YOU TO A TRUSTED SITE**
🍊 SPOOFING: Once a cybercriminal has access to the information for a transaction, they pose as trusted business partners. Be aware of email addresses that don't match websites, spelling errors, and strange formatting in email signature lines. When in doubt, call your partner to verify if they have emailed you.
**BE SURE YOUR CLIENTS KNOW TO NEVER SEND ANY FUNDS WITHOUT VERBAL CONFIRMATION OVER THE PHONE PRIOR TO THE TRANSFER**
🍊 MFA: When scammers try to steal your information, MFA, or Multi Factor Authentication, gives you an extra layer of protection. When your information is used to log into a program, you receive a notification on your phone asking you to verify the sign in request. If you have MFA set up and do not authorize a sign-in attempt, cybercriminals are stopped in their tracks and won't gain access to your sensitive, confidential information.
