"Since e-bikes were legally defined as distinct from motor vehicles in 2002, apparently only one additional federal law — allowing their use on federally funded trails that don’t permit motor vehicles — has regulated them further. Individual cities and counties, however, have enacted a crazy quilt of local rules."

Unregulated e-bikes are a growing danger on American streets. In one Bay Area town, a terrible accident finally led to reform.

"Two interactive kiosks are stationed at [James A. Karnes Corrections Center, 2551 Fisher Rd., Columbus, OH 43204] ... Once reached via the kiosk, the deputy clerk verifies the identity of the person paying and has the person scan a government-issued identification, such as a driver’s license, state ID, or passport. The deputy clerk looks up the relevant court case and accepts payment by credit card or cash."

People paying a bond can remotely connect to the Franklin County Municipal Court Clerk’s Office through interactive kiosks.

"Next Generation 911 more precisely locates callers so they're more likely to start with the correct dispatch center. And if dispatchers do have to transfer a call, it can be done with one button, not a 10-digit phone number. Text messages, photos and eventually videos can be shared with the dispatch centers."

Within five years, all 215 emergency dispatch centers across Ohio will be using Next Generation 911 technology. This is good news in an emergency.

"The updates represent an evolution that may fundamentally alter options available to the estimated 994,000 Ohioans who are living with a felony conviction – approximately one in 11 adults."

Those seeking to move forward from criminal convictions can now ask courts to seal or expunge more records, building prospects for employment, housing, education, and a better future.

"The new ... law makes distracted driving − texting, checking social media, streaming videos − a primary offense. That means police no longer need to see another traffic infraction before making the stop."

Texting while driving is already illegal in Ohio but a new law takes effect April 4 that will make it easier for officers to pull over motorists.
