We are proud to welcome a premier Real Estate Finance and Structured Finance team from Reed Smith to Benesch, marking a significant expansion of our nationally recognized Real Estate Practice Group while supporting the launch of our Miami office and enhancing our presence in New York!

The addition of approximately 20 lawyers strengthens our capabilities across commercial real estate finance, securitization, secondary market transactions and complex lending matters. A federal court rejected the FDA’s classification of the umbilical cord-derived product CORDGRAFT, in a decision that could reshape the regulatory landscape for tissue and regenerative medicine products. Litigation Partner Grohman and Healthcare Associate Karlye Sopczak explain.

On March 18, 2026, Chief Judge Brian C. Wimes of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri issued a significant decision overturning the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (“FDA”) classification of Vitti Labs’ umbilical cord–derived product, CORDGRAFT.

The decision reinforces the deference afforded to prudency determinations by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio and reflects the depth of Benesch's Energy Practice.
