The 2023 edition of The U.S.

Nationwide Practice, International Reach

Benesch is an Am Law 200 business law firm and limited liability partnership with over 330 attorneys and offices in Cleveland, Chicago, Columbus, New York City, San Francisco, Shanghai, and Wilmington. The firm is known for providing highly sophisticated legal services to national and international clients that include public and private, middle market and

emerging companies, as well as private equity funds, entrepreneurs, and not-for-profit organizations. Strategic Growth

We have had extraordinary success in welcoming many new attorneys to Benesch over the past several years, including opening a Chicago office (now more than 100 attorneys strong); and establishing a San Francisco office. The vast majority of our new attorneys are highly-accomplished partners who have joined us from “Big Law” firms, such as Skadden, Jones Day, Kirkland & Ellis, Mayer Brown, Baker & Hostetler, Sheppard Mullin, Winston & Strawn, Reed Smith, Foley & Lardner, Squire Patton Boggs, and Arnold & Porter, bringing additional depth and breadth to our practices. These attorneys joined Benesch to be part of the exciting growth, entrepreneurial spirit and ability to service clients by providing elite talent under a sustainable cost structure that eliminates unnecessary overhead. A significant proportion of our recruits and lateral hires identify as members of underrepresented groups and we are proud to be building a law firm that looks more and more like the global marketplace of the future. Our services in areas such as class action litigation, private equity, products liability, securities litigation, data security and privacy, real estate, energy, intellectual property litigation and labor and employment, among others, also have expanded substantially as a result of this recent growth. News & World Report/Best Lawyers in America® named 58 Benesch attorneys as Best Lawyers in America®. Benesch was named Transportation Law Firm of the Year in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2020, 2022 and 2023 by U.S. News & World Report/Best Lawyers® and the firm received national first-tier rankings in Health Care Law, Transportation Law and Litigation-Construction by 2022 U.S. News & World Report/Best Lawyers® “Best Law Firms.” Additionally, 37 Benesch attorneys and 14 practice areas were ranked in the 2022 edition of Chambers USA.

For the second year in a row, Benesch has been named the #1 largest law firm in Northeast Ohio by Crain's Cleveland Business. With nearly 200 attorneys in the Cleveland market and now 500+ nationwide, this recognition reflects the strength of our people, the trust of our clients and our continued strategic growth.

“Cleveland has been our home since 1938,” said Benesch Managing Partner Gregg Eisenberg, who has led the firm since 2015, in an interview with Crain’s. “That’s something we take great pride in. It is an incredible strength to have our headquarters here, and we will continue to grow here and in every other office as well.”

Momentum continues at Benesch.

We are proud to welcome a premier Real Estate Finance and Structured Finance team from Reed Smith to Benesch, marking a significant expansion of our nationally recognized Real Estate Practice Group while supporting the launch of our Miami office and enhancing our presence in New York!

The addition of approximately 20 lawyers strengthens our capabilities across commercial real estate finance, securitization, secondary market transactions and complex lending matters. Together, we are building a more integrated practice offering that enables borrowers, developers, lenders and investors to access sophisticated financing solutions across the full capital stack and throughout the lifecycle of a transaction.

Led by Jodi Abramowitz Schwimmer and Randy Eckers, the team brings extensive experience across the full spectrum of commercial real estate finance and structured finance transactions, helping clients navigate increasingly complex capital markets and financing challenges.

“We are adding exceptional talent in commercial real estate finance, expanding our capabilities in secondary market transactions and establishing a premier structured finance practice that immediately enhances what we can offer clients,” said Benesch Real Estate Practice Group Chair and Firm Administrative Partner Jeffrey Wild. “This addition enables us to help clients access capital in new ways while further strengthening our position as one of the country’s leading real estate practices.”

Please join us in welcoming our newest colleagues to Benesch!

AI tools are already generating false, reputation-damaging statements about real people—but early defamation lawsuits against companies like OpenAI, Google and Meta are struggling because courts are applying traditional defamation rules and often finding no liability.

A federal court rejected the FDA’s classification of the umbilical cord-derived product CORDGRAFT, in a decision that could reshape the regulatory landscape for tissue and regenerative medicine products. Litigation Partner Grohman and Healthcare Associate Karlye Sopczak explain.

On March 18, 2026, Chief Judge Brian C. Wimes of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri issued a significant decision overturning the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (“FDA”) classification of Vitti Labs’ umbilical cord–derived product, CORDGRAFT.

Benesch Energy Practice Lead Trevor Alexander, with support from Partner Mark Keaney and Associate Samantha Meng, recently secured a unanimous Ohio Supreme Court victory in a significant utility regulatory appeal. The decision reinforces the deference afforded to prudency determinations by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio and reflects the depth of Benesch's Energy Practice.
