The last few weeks have been jam-packed. In addition to our daily obligations prosecuting cases in Autauga, Chilton, and Elmore Counties we have been involved in multiple community events throughout our circuit.

1. Guest Speaker at the Elmore County Forum on Child Abuse Awareness hosted by Commissioner Henry Hines.

2. Attended the Butterfly Bridge Children’s Advocacy Center Pinwheel Ceremony for Child Abuse Awareness week.

3. Sponsored a Blood Drive for National Crime Victims’ Week. Overall, 21 of 42 DA’s participated and nearly 500 donations were collected.

4. Participated in Chilton County Law Day for 2nd grade students.

5. I was honored to receive an award as a Community Hero from Clanton Elementary School at the Liberty Learning Foundation Presentation of Super Citizens organized by Congressman Gary Palmer which was held at Thorsby High School.

I am very proud of the work we do in the 19th Circuit and on behalf of our entire team, thank you for trusting us to seek the truth and pursue justice for you.

This morning Steven Barnes plead guilty to R**e 1st Degree with a recommended sentence of 40 years. Even though 40 years is a long time, this was a difficult decision for us to enter into this plea agreement in light of the evil he committed. Life without parole would have been too good for what he did, but after extensive communications with the victim’s family and Millbrook PD, together we made the decision to protect her from ever having to enter the same room with her offender again. We now begin preparing for sentencing. We continue to pray for this child and this family as they move one step closer to closing this chapter.

Another child predator off the street forever! Great work by our team at the DA’s Office working alongside all involved. I’m also thankful for Judge Booth who levied the sentence, and especially for the bravery of the survivors who came forward to end the abuse!

Psalm 9:16 …”a wicked one is ensnared in the work of his own hands.”

Hallelujah (God be praised!) that this man’s evil hands won’t get the opportunity to victimize another child.

Thank you to the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce for allowing me to speak at today’s meeting. The Catfish House food hit the spot, the turnout was impressive and the crowd was engaged through my presentation about Public Safety and the current issues we face at the DA’s Office.

Life Without the Possibility of Parole for a career criminal!

Corey Oliver's days of victimizing women and children are finally over for good! With more than 10 prior felony convictions and approximately 40 total arrests that began with drugs and property crimes and escalated to sexual crimes of violence. Oliver was a direct beneficiary of the hug-a-thug policies of prison reform that plagued Alabama citizens for nearly ten years. Thank God we have come to our senses recently and started empowering our law enforcement, DA’s, and judges to protect the public. In his previous cases, the prosecutors, the judges, the probation officers... everyone did their job according to the law and the result was an evil person, who should have been in prison, was free to keep committing crimes and victimizing women and children.

On behalf of every rational person from Chilton County, we appreciate Judge Booth not hesitating to drop the hammer on Corey Oliver today. Today was a great day as we watched a serial ra**st and child molester be sent away to never have the opportunity to sexually assault another woman or child again.”
