Part four of our series on spiritual abuse is here, shedding light on one of the many types of domestic abuse.

Domestic abuse doesn't exist in a vacuum. It permeates into other areas of the survivor's life as well.

In part three, we touched on how devastating it can be for a Jewish person to be isolated from their community.

A partner who perpetuates spiritual abuse will exploit a survivor's religious identity in order to maintain control.

Survivors may fear judgment and ostracism from their community if they speak out, which intensifies the trauma experienced.

If your child is struggling socially and emotionally in school, they are not alone. Seventy percent of educators surveyed earlier this year by EdWeek Research Center said that their students have been misbehaving more compared to the fall of 2019 and 33% said students were misbehaving “a lot more.”

So what can you do to better support a kid struggling in school? Join us for Navigating School-Based Supports & Services, the second session in our Parent Speaker Series. Laura Tye, an educational advocate for students and their families, will share her deep experience and insight. You will learn:

How schools provide supports and services
Tips for effective communication (what to say and to whom)
Your roles and responsibilities

Brooks, Ph.D. as they share powerful insights on how parents can support children in developing the skills necessary to more effectively deal with stress and pressure, solve complex problems, relate comfortably with others, and bounce back from disappointments, adversity, and trauma.

The Network: Advocating Against Domestic Violence established the Survivor Crisis Fund during the pandemic to address critical gaps in the safety net for survivors of gender-based violence and human trafficking.

The Network will start accepting applications again only for survivors who reside within the City of Chicago on October 1st. The application will be found at https://the-network.org/survivor-fund/.

This one-time funding will be available for survivors of domestic violence, stalking, sexual assault, and/or trafficking who reside in Chicago as a $1000 payment.

Notes:

Survivors must reside within the City of Chicago (or very recently fled from the City of Chicago) and must have a household income of less than 300% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
If someone in the household has already received a $1000 cash assistance payment from The Network in 2023, they will NOT be eligible for these funds. Do NOT submit an application.
You will be asked to upload documentation to verify identity, residence, and income.
This will NOT be a form of emergency financial assistance. It will take two months or more for eligible applicants to receive the funds.
The application form and link to it are new. Please do not try to use an old link. You must go to https://the-network.org/survivor-fund/ on or after October 1st to access the new application form.
