WRD Chicago is organized by staff, volunteers, and refugee advocates and supporters from various organizations focused on welcoming and serving refugees.

World Refugee Day Chicago honors the lives of refugees in our communities by giving a platform for their stories and raising awareness for the 70+ million refugees worldwide. Since 2002, our committee has commemorated World Refugee Day by organizing events workshops, conferences, lunches, street parades, downtown rallies, guest speakers, as well as diverse multi-cultural performances by members of

Thank you to all of our guests, the Syrian Community Network, and the Swedish American Museum for a great screening of the short film “Breakaway!”

“Breakaway,” filmed by Jake Siam Solomon, is a short documentary that follows two players from the WRD Chicago Refugee Day World Cup for more than a year as they build hope, connection, and community in a new home through sport and resilience.🌍⚽️🧡

Join us for a FREE event “Embodied Palestinian Solidarity” produced by World Refugee Day Chicago.

The event includes a lecture by Nicole Bindler discussing the history of Palestinian and Israeli folk dance forms as representations of national identity, the work of contemporary choreographers from the region, and the conditions under which contemporary artists live and make their work, including funding, touring structures, and the content of their dances.

This will be followed by a discussion with local Palestinian artists and allies who will demonstrate Dabke and help lead those gathered in a dance of solidarity.
