Proud to celebrate our own Michele S. Katz, co-founding partner of Advitam IP, whose latest article, “’ Til Death Do Us Part: The Effect of Death on Trademarks,” was featured in the Global IP Magazine!

Michele dives into a question most people never think to ask until it’s too late: what happens to a trademark when its owner dies? Drawing on real examples, from Anthony Bourdain’s estate to Sabrina Carpenter’s trademark holding company to Liam Payne’s still-pending USPTO assignment, Michele breaks down how brands and IP rights pass (or don’t) after death, and why estate planning is brand protection.

Last month, one of our founding partners, Michele Katz, Advitam IP, traded in her usual routine for Capitol Hill.

As part of National Adoption Advocacy Day, she joined fellow advocates meeting with members of Congress to push for policies that support adoptive families and children in need of permanent homes.

It’s the kind of work that fits Michele perfectly. Michele is the founder of the Plus One Adoption Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit built around providing credible, vetted adoption resources and support. Watching her take that mission to Washington was incredible.

At Advitam IP, we love seeing our people give back to causes that mean the most to them. Michele’s dedication to adoption advocacy is a perfect example.

This week, Michele, Co-Founding Partner at Advitam IP, had the wonderful opportunity to attend a live cooking demonstration and cookbook signing for our client, Anupy Singla, the talented entrepreneur behind Indian as Apple Pie, a cooking series airing on Chicago’s PBS station, WTTW, and broadcast on public television stations across the country! 🎉

Watching Anupy in her element, sharing her passion for food and culture with a live audience, was inspiring and rewarding. Seeing firsthand how her hard work, creativity, and dedication have grown into such an exciting brand and television platform is a proud moment for all of us at Advitam IP.

Michele also invited our client Katie O’Malley, founder of (en)Courage Coaching, to join the event. One of our favorite parts of what we do is connecting people, celebrating wins, and giving clients the opportunity to witness success stories that can inspire their own journeys.

Advitam IP is pleased to share that our Co-founding Partner, Michele Katz, met Joel Mokyr, 2025 Nobel Memorial Prize co-winner in Economic Sciences for his work on sustained economic growth when she attended Innovation and Insight: A Conversation on Technological Progress, hosted by the American Friends of the Hebrew University Midwest Region in Chicago last month.
