INDIA: 11 KILLED, INCLUDING 8 CHILDREN, IN DEADLY FIRECRACKER FACTORY BLAST

KAUSHAMBI, UTTAR PRADESH: At least 11 people, including eight children, were killed on Monday when a massive explosion tore through a firecracker factory in India’s Uttar Pradesh state.

Police said the youngest victim was just four years old. The blast reportedly destroyed the factory and several nearby houses, scattering debris across the area and leaving multiple people injured.

Emergency teams used excavators and heavy machinery to search for survivors trapped beneath collapsed concrete and bricks. Local residents also joined rescue efforts, clearing rubble with their bare hands and basic tools.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to provide medical treatment to the injured and assistance to affected families. Financial assistance of ₹2 lakh for each deceased victim’s family and ₹50,000 for each injured person was announced.

NEW YORK: ONE WOMAN KILLED, TWO PEOPLE STABBED IN RANDOM ATTACK IN TIMES SQUARE

Police said the first victim, a 68-year-old man, had just exited the subway and was waiting to cross the street with his wife when the suspect allegedly pulled two knives from a bag and stabbed him in the abdomen.

The second victim, a 32-year-old woman, was also stabbed and later died from her injuries at a hospital. The other victim was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries and was reported to be in stable condition.

Police said the suspect, described as an apparently emotionally disturbed woman, was fatally shot by officers following the attack.

KARACHI: HISTORIC DELHI GOVERNMENT SCHOOL SHUTS ITS DOORS
KARACHI: The historic Delhi Government School in Karachi has reportedly been closed permanently, marking another setback for the city’s public education system.
The institution, once considered among Karachi’s leading government schools, reportedly had around 2,000 students enrolled. The students are now expected to be transferred to other government schools.
Following a court order, the Sindh School Education Department has issued instructions to the relevant authorities regarding the transfer of students and teachers.
According to reports, the building was being used for three government schools — two girls’ schools operating in morning and evening shifts, and a boys’ school functioning in the afternoon.
The Education Department is considering transferring the students to nearby government schools.
Delhi Government School was once regarded as a symbol of quality public education in Karachi, particularly during the 1980s and 1990s, when it was among the city’s most popular government institutions.
However, the school’s decline over the years has been described as another reflection of the deterioration of public education facilities.
With the closure of its historic building, an important chapter in Karachi’s public education history has come to an end.

THATTA: FARMERS STAGE SIT-IN OVER WATER SHORTAGE AND UNEQUAL DISTRIBUTION

THATTA: Farmers from the tail-end areas of the Jam, Ladhia, Malkwah and Gongki branches in Sakro staged a protest sit-in at Late Stop against alleged poor performance by the irrigation department and unfair distribution of water.

The farmers strongly protested the failure to supply sufficient water to the tail-end of Jam Branch and raised slogans against irrigation authorities.

According to the protesters, oversized watercourses, illegal obstructions and lack of cleaning of irrigation branches have intensified the water crisis in the area.

Farmers claimed that an obstruction at RD-160 was affecting water supply to the tail-end of Jam Branch, while blockages at RD-30 and RD-32 of Ladhia Branch were also creating major hurdles in water distribution.

The protesters said that despite assurances from Irrigation Engineer Sanaullah Korai, the Ladhia Branch had not been properly cleaned and the reported obstructions had not been removed.

Farmers further alleged that officials claim water is available at the tail-end, while the ground situation tells a different story. They said the water recently visible at the tail-end was reportedly due to sea water intrusion/tidal flow, rather than a regular irrigation supply.

The farmers demanded that the irrigation department immediately clean the branches, remove illegal obstructions and breaches, and ensure fair and transparent distribution of irrigation water.

GERMANY: TWO FRANKFURT AIRPORT WORKERS DIE AFTER CONTRACTING MALARIA

FRANKFURT: Two workers at Germany’s Frankfurt Airport have died after contracting malaria, while four other employees who were infected have reportedly recovered.

Airport authorities said the infections were likely linked to mosquitoes that arrived on aircraft from countries where malaria is endemic. The rare phenomenon is sometimes referred to as “airport malaria”, in which an infected mosquito survives a flight and subsequently transmits the disease at or near an airport.

A total of six airport employees were reportedly infected.

Following the cases, mosquito traps have been installed at Frankfurt Airport as authorities take measures to prevent further infections.

Frankfurt Airport is Germany’s busiest airport and serves as a major hub for the country’s flagship airline.
