Costello, Valente & Gentry, P.C. Announces Departure of Attorney Sharon Gentry to Launch Specialized Practice and the Firm’s Name Change
BRATTLEBORO, VT - Costello, Valente & Gentry, P.C., today announced that Sharon J. Gentry will be leaving the Firm, effective June 30, 2026, to establish her own independent law practice. Attorney Gentry departs on excellent terms after more than 15 years of sharing in the Firm’s commitment to help clients facing very difficult legal challenges.
At the Firm, Attorney Gentry was a jack of many trades: she litigated civil, juvenile, probate and family cases and assisted in estate planning and real estate-related matters. In her new practice, Attorney Gentry will focus exclusively on juvenile law. She will represent parents and children involved in custody proceedings initiated by the Department for Children & Families and appeals of juvenile-related trial court determinations to the Vermont Supreme Court. This type of work can be extremely challenging, but it presents a unique opportunity to help families stay together and help vulnerable children.
“Sharon has been a tremendous part of our firm and helped hundreds of clients during her time here,” said James A. Valente, President. “We’re going to miss her knowledge and talent, obviously, but most of all we will miss her personality. She was an exceptional colleague whose careful approach and blunt honesty made our Firm a better place to work, and led to great results for our clients.”
Attorney Gentry joined the Firm in 2011 after starting her career in Ohio, where she clerked for the United States Bankruptcy Court and practiced at a private firm. In addition to developing her reputation as a lawyer, Attorney Gentry became well known in Brattleboro as a dedicated mother, crafter, and enthusiast of ice-related sports (both hockey and curling).
With Attorney Gentry’s departure, the Firm announces a change to its name to “CVG - Costello Valente Group.” CVG is a 50+ year-old full-service firm that uses a team-based approach to serve clients in transactional matters involving real estate and estate planning, and litigation involving civil, personal injury/malpractice, criminal, real estate, family, and probate disputes. With four branches, it is one of the ten largest law firms in Vermont, and assists clients throughout the state as well as those with legal needs in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and New York. CVG will continue to offer legal services to clients formerly represented by Attorney Gentry.
