Protecting children means I will have to make tough decisions in the context of Romeo & Juliet romances. My priority will be to protect children trying to navigate the teenage years.

In Massachusetts, statutory r**e is prosecuted under G.L. c. 265, s. 23 as the r**e and abuse of a child under 16. The law sets the age of consent at 16 years old, meaning any sexual or unnatural sexual in*******se with a person under 16 is a serious felony.

This law doesn’t take into account two consenting teenagers and the law makes no exception to teens who feel they are in love. These are the tough issues we navigate as prosecutors and as parents.
