Don Moseman is the Active Shooter/Emergency Response Consultant for the North Dakota Safety Council. Originally from Rapid City, SD, Don served in the U.S. Air Force as an Electronic Nuclear Weapon Specialist. He also served as a state police officer from 1991 to 2011.

Don will lead the powerful and deeply personal presentation "Lessons Learned from Columbine." As a first responder who was on the scene during the Columbine High School attack in Littleton, CO, he'll share the lasting and emotional and psychological impact from the tragedy -- not only on the victims and community, but on the first responders who rush in that day. This session promised to be a life-changing experience for people involved in education.

Fargo Public Schools Chief Communications Officer, AnnMarie Campbell, will present "Parliamentary Procedure: Robert's Rules of Order." This session provides an overview of the history, purpose, and fundamental principles of
Robert’s Rules of Order. Participants will learn why parliamentary procedure is an effective tool for conducting efficient, orderly, and transparent board meetings. The session will also explore how Robert’s Rules intersects with state law and local school board policy, helping board members navigate meeting procedures with confidence.

NDSBA held another day of StudentsFirst Governance training today -- this time in Dickinson. Board members and administrators from three school boards attended the Launch Institute, facilitated by NDSBA Executive Director Amy De Kok and StudentsFirst Lead Coach Martin Bratrud.

This one-day event is the first step for a school district participating in the StudentsFirst Governance Program, and it covers everything from changing mindsets and understanding roles to setting student academic outcome goals.

StudentsFirst Governance is a certification program that provides school boards and district leadership teams with tools, strategies, and structured learning opportunities to strengthen governance systems and link every board decision to student outcome goals, instead of getting pulled into side issues or politics.

Congratulations, Brian Schneider, on being named the North Dakota Teacher of the Year!

Napoleon Public School

North Dakota's 2027 Teacher of the Year has been named! 🏆

State Superintendent Levi Bachmeier and Gov. Kelly Armstrong announced today that Brian Schneider, an agricultural education teacher at Napoleon Public School, has earned the state's highest honor for educators.

Schneider has taught agricultural education for 40 years, including the last 35 at Napoleon Public School, where he instructs students in grades 7-12 in subjects ranging from Exploring Agriculture to Community Development. Under his leadership, Napoleon's FFA chapter has earned more than 150 state championships and three national titles.

"Brian Schneider's work reflects the commitment and student-focused mindset that define North Dakota's best educators," said Superintendent Bachmeier. "His dedication to building confidence and creating opportunities for students exemplifies the leadership that helps our schools thrive."

Schneider was selected from among four finalists: Teresa Olson of James Valley CTC in Jamestown, Jennifer Nokes of Roosevelt Elementary School in Dickinson, and Dustin Moe of Washburn Public School. He will begin his term as North Dakota's Teacher of the Year on January 1, succeeding Frannie Tunseth of May-Port CG School District.
