Yesterday, we stood with Jane Doe as she bravely shared her story and demanded accountability.
On August 10, 2025, Jane Doe was working as a Supervising Cook at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). Jane Doe was left alone with a known violent prisoner in a freezer—a known blind spot, where she was violently attacked and forced to fight for her life. The correctional officer in charge of ensuring her safety neglected his duties, allowing the violent attack to occur.
This case is about more than one horrific incident—it is about a systemic failure to protect female employees who go unprotected and unsupervised in dangerous work environments.
No employee should have to choose between going to work and fighting for their life because basic protections are ignored. Those entrusted with protecting public employees must be held accountable when they fail in that responsibility.
Jane Doe showed extraordinary courage in coming forward. She survived an unimaginable attack, and is now demanding answers, accountability, and meaningful change so that no one else endures what she experienced.
Jane Doe survived. Now she deserves justice.
