At Penn Law, 75% of the first-year class took time off between #college and #lawschool. In recent years I have definitely seen an increase in this trend -- wish it had been more popular when I graduated! via The Daily Pennsylvanian
Of the current first-year students at Penn Law, 75 percent have spent one or more years out of college before enrolling in law school.Â
"Law school applications have turned around in the last two years, after years of decline. Why?
A survey by Kaplan Test Prep, with results from 121 law schools, found that 87 percent reported that the current political climate in the U.S. was a significant factor in the increase."
The current political environment is motivating law school applicants, surveys find.
This e-mail from a law school admissions client just made my day! 😃

Small sample size, but still interesting data from Harvard Law School!
"Our GRE pool of applicants was more likely to be international, and more likely to have significant work experience. They were more likely to have a graduate degree. They were more likely to have a STEM background, and they were more likely to come from an underrepresented racial group." via Above the Law
The GRE has passed its first, all important test.
Number of Law School Applicants Surges, Especially Among High Scorers | Connecticut Law Tribune
At the same time the Law School Admission Council is increasing the number of LSAT test dates from six to 10 and will move to a computerized version of the exam in the spring of 2019.
Law schools are very diverse, so why aren’t law firms?
Some of the U.S.’s most prestigious law schools are enrolling more diverse students, but only 15% of attorneys at law firms surveyed identified as minorities.
I still recommend that my clients take the LSAT unless there are some extenuating circumstances. But it looks like things could definitely change in the next few years!
Seven of New York's 15 law schools are now accepting the GRE in addition to the LSAT and Cornell becomes the second to allow the GMAT as well.
Interesting news from Chicago!
The acquisition of the private John Marshall Law School in the South Loop area would take effect in fall 2019, with John Marshall transferring its students, faculty, funds and degree programs to UIC over time.
Enjoyed speaking about law school admissions to a group of high school students today. The students are participating in an intensive Law Internship Summit at Georgetown University through Leadership Initiatives, and the panel included admissions representatives from UCLA School of Law, Fordham Law, Boston College School of Law and University of Maryland Carey School of Law Admissions. Always fun to be back on campus!

Some important data to consider before applying to law school....
A recent NALP - National Association for Law Placement survey determined that "an entry-level local prosecutor will earn an average of $56,200; a new public defender will earn an average $58,300 salary; while starting civil legal service attorneys and lawyers at public interest organizations on average earn $48,000 and $50,300, respectively."
Those numbers certainly look different than the entry-level law firm salaries, which are as high as $190k these days!
Starting pay for public defenders local prosecutors and public interest attorneys hovers around $50000 and pay increases have been slow in recent years according to a new survey from the National Association for Law Placement.

Lawyer friends.... do you remember fun questions like these?
-Which of the following could be the list of the first through fourth stops on the tour of the museum?
-Determine which of 3 appetizers each of 7 people will eat.
-Determine which sport each of 8 children play, and what color shirt each child will wear, and what time each child’s game is.
Check out free, Official LSAT Prep on Khan Academy. Build the skills and confidence you need for test day.
One of the most frequent questions I get this year is whether to take the GRE or the LSAT, now that a number of top law schools have started accepting the GRE.
The LSAT is a paper exam, but the GRE is usually administered on a computer.
It's that time of year!
Law school applicants should understand why they may be on waitlists and take steps to improve their admissions odds.
$190k?!? I remember when 140k was BIG news! These salaries are hard to resist, even for top law students who started law school committed to public interest work.
A few major law firms are jumping on the bandwagon and raising starting pay for new associates to $190,000.
More LSAT takers = more lawyers? June/July #LSAT registration up 12.1% from last June as of May 31. https://www.lsac.org/lsacresources via Law School Admission Council (Actual, Official Page)
