White & Horton Law

White & Horton Law We are a Bethesda-based law firm that deal with all types of construction issues. Our personal and hands on approach is different than the approach of larger firms who provide similar legal services of construction matters.

We are small by design.

Operating as usual

We encourage clients to be proactive to avoid pitfalls and delays in their construction project. People often make costly mistakes early in the process. A small investment of time and money during the initial planning phase of the project, regardless of size, can help to resolve potential problems and avoid unnecessary delays and significant expenses in the future.

Big talk about your next home improvement project may be exciting, but don't skip the step of securing a formal, written contract from your contractor if you want to make that dream a reality. Verbal contracts with home improvement professionals may be binding by law, but the details can be hard to enforce if there's a disagreement of any kind after the work begins.

A fair payment schedule is one of the most important components of a home improvement project. On one hand, every dollar owed to a contractor is more leverage that the homeowner has to make sure a project is completed to their satisfaction. On the other hand, payments must be reasonably scheduled — especially for larger, longer remodels or additions — so that contractors can pay for supplies

Custom homes and renovations present unique challenges to all involved. Extensive homeowner involvement in the design and constuction process is normal, but when disputes with the general contractor or builders arise, invariablly there will be project delays, cost overruns, unsigned change orders, and accounting disputes. We at White & Horton want to help you resolve these issues quickly and easily.
